The Sixteenth Sunday After Pentecost
September 20, 2020

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

Pastoral Care Corner

Twelve parish members have tested positive for COVID-19.

Cynthia Kimball's mother, Peggy Spruhan, died on Wednesday after a long illness.

Pray for all of our sisters and brothers who are dealing with the challenging consequences of this pandemic.

Thank you for being grateful, responsible stewards of the gifts we receive from God. What a blessing and honor to be stewards of what God has given to us! Thank you for supporting our ministry and mission at Resurrection and allowing Resurrection members to be beacons of light in our parish and out in the community.  No matter what amount you give to Resurrection, your gift makes a difference in the ministry and mission we do. As part of your spiritual discipline, we hope you will make sure to joyfully make your offering so we can continue to shine our light in the parish and in our community.

Most Holy God, time is one of your most precious gifts. Remembrance and gratitude are equally important in our life with Christ. Help us and all for whom we pray to remember what is important, what is worth keeping, and what we will carry into eternity.  Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray for our church family. We ask your continuing blessings on our presiding bishop Michael Curry, our bishop Robert Wright, our assisting bishop Don Wimberly, our retired bishop Neil Alexander, and our priests Scott and Sue. Give them wisdom and grace as they plan for our communal worship and the ongoing mission of love and justice for all people. Bless the Nonnemakers at Virginia Theological Seminary.  Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray for our president Donald, for the leaders of the nations, and for all in authority, that they may compassionately work for justice and peace.  Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray for all members of our armed services, protect and defend our troops in deployments in combat zones. Pray for Jamie Davey, Jordan Davey, Brett Turner, Jennifer Parrish, Bart Ziccardi, Robert Rish, Kayla Ziccardi, Frank Caruccio, Joseph Lorenz, Wayne Lovell, Jessica Stephens, Mitchell Stephens, Brandon Richards, Drew Camp, and Jason Gregoryk. Guide, guard and protect all law enforcement and first responders including Don Scalia. Please cover all health care workers with your blessings of protection and strength as they work to save lives including Dr. William Koeppel, Marika Csatary, JM Kidd, Chloe Gedney, Jackie Hayes, Dr. Barbara Camp, Roxanne Hall, Susie Murray, Susan Smith, and Candler Kimsey. Let our prayers, thanks and love give them encouragement as they face the dangers and the uncertainty of this pandemic. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray for health and healing for all creation. The health of many and a return to communal life depend on our obedience to guidance for protecting one another in this pandemic. We pray for them and for the sick, the lonely, and their caregivers. Let them experience health and wholeness in your healing presence. Pray for Carol, Helen, Kelly, Bob, Lloyd, Gil, Jennifer, Kevin, Jackie, Kelli, Luci, Billy, Genny, Gordon, Opal, Diane, David, Scott, Dennis, Chrissy, Emily, and Sheila. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

We pray for Hannah Kidd Kogel as she awaits the birth of her child. We pray for newborns, infants, and children of all ages. Protect them from every danger and sickness. Restore all children separated from their families. In this time shield all children with safety, love, and peace. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

Comfort all who mourn for loved ones lost to sickness, accidents, and injustice. As we recognize our own fragility, help us to realize and celebrate the sacredness of every life. Pray for all who mourn. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

Help us this week to stay faithful in prayers and giving to the many communities wrecked by fire, wind, and floods. Most of us cannot even begin to imagine having to start over again with little or nothing after such tragic losses as these. And as we might be concerned about our own reduced pace of our lives and activities, stir gratitude and recollection in our hearts. Move us to true thanks for your love and compassion.  Holy Lord, hear our prayer.

We are joyful and thankful for these among us celebrating birthdays, including John Stump, Susie Murray, Cassie Fincher, Brad Alexander, Matt Alexander, and Betsy Brien, and those celebrating anniversaries, including Jared & Holly Brode. Bless their accomplishments and their plans. Give them joy as they celebrate these landmarks in their lives. Holy Lord, hear our prayer.
