Outcomes Measurement Survey
|
In order for attendees to receive the appropriate CME credits, an Outcomes Measurement Survey must be completed.
Physicians who complete this survey will earn 2 additional hours of AOA Category 1-A CME credits.
The deadline for completion is Dec. 12, 2018. CME will be submitted to the AOA by Dec. 14, 2018. After that date the survey will be void, no exceptions.
Accreditation Statement
The Michigan Osteopathic Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. The Michigan Osteopathic Association designates this program for a maximum of 24-26 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Human Trafficking Awareness
The 14th Annual Michigan Osteopathic Association Autumn Scientific Convention offered a session on identifying the victims of human trafficking. The issues surrounding human trafficking are truly heartbreaking and healthcare professionals can provide a vital component to identifying and helping victims.
The session included a video that captures just how severe the problem is right here in Michigan. Please take a moment to watch the video and understand that these horrible crimes happen everyday in our communities.

'Tis the Season for the AMOA Tree of Peace
The holiday season is a time when we pause to celebrate life and family, and honor our friends and loved ones. In keeping with this spirit, the Advocates for the Michigan Osteopathic Association are once again presenting a very special opportunity to remember that special person while supporting the programs of the Advocates.
The Tree of Peace will be displayed in the lobby of our beautiful MOA building for the month of December. With your support, it will glow brilliantly throughout the holiday with all dedications being listed in the Book of Honor displayed next to the Tree of Peace.
There are three ways to give:
- A Shining Light : For a $10.00 minimum donation, a Light is dedicated in Memory of Honor of your loved one.
- A Keepsake Ornament : For a $40.00 minimum donation, a Keepsake Ornament will be placed on the Tree.
- A Tree of Peace Sponsorship : For a $100.00 minimum donation, a Keepsake Ornament will be placed on the tree plus you will receive that Keepsake Ornament when the tree is taken down in January.
All proceeds of this fundraiser will benefit our ongoing projects in support of the Osteopathic Profession. The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program, the AMOA's Distracted Driving Simulator, and supporting our MSUCOM medical students and their families continue to be the projects that receive the most of our efforts. As always, our hope is to expand the reach of our osteopathic message to interested hospitals, service organizations and schools.

MSUCOM, MAOFP and MOA partner for Flu Shots at the Capitol
Nov. 8, LANSING - The Michigan State Collage of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM), Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians (MAOFP) and the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA), held the annual Legislative Flu Shot Day at the Capitol Building in Lansing.
Student volunteers participating in the event honed both their clinical and advocacy skills while giving the legislature a dose of osteopathic preventive care. More than 50 volunteer physicians and medical students from MSUCOM, MOA and MAOFP assisted in administering the flu shots. All students were trained to administer shots through Community Integrated Medicine Public Health Systems. Joining the student volunteers were MOA Board members, Andrew Adair, DO, and Student Trustee Matthew Meranda. MSUCOM Interim Dean Andrea Amalfitano, DO, provided support as the students provided flu vaccinations to legislators and staff.

Autumn Convention Spotlight:
Who Is Coverys? Questions Answered at MOA Convention
As MOA members filed into the Amway Grand, they lined-up at the Coverys booth and got answers to their questions about the new MOA-endorsed company with the curious name.
Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do? How do you say your name?

"We understand that providers may struggle to balance the patient's right to refuse medical treatment with the medical ethics principle of beneficence," Ann said. "So, during our session, we identified common barriers for patient non-adherence with medical treatment and specified three important components to address when obtaining a patient's refusal."

MPRO Awarded Technology Innovation Grant
MPRO received a 2018 Technology Innovation Award at Tech Impact's TechForward October conference in Austin, Texas.
The Technology Innovation Award, which includes a $10,000 development grant was awarded to MPRO based on the submission of a proposed technology project that involves the use of data from a variety of sources and stakeholders to develop a database that identifies "outlier" opioid prescribers who could be targeted for education and technical assistance as appropriate. The project is scheduled to get underway in November and extend into 2019.
MPRO's award was one of two grants that were selected from almost 100 entries that were received by Tech Impact.
