Press Release - Embassy of India Celebrates Hanukkah

Embassy of India organized celebration of the Jewish festival of  Hanukkah at the Embassy on December 8, 2018. The event was attended  by around 140 guests including Congressman Jamie Raskin, leading members of the Jewish community, representatives from US Administration, Congressional staff, business, think-tanks and media. The event has been held at the Indian Embassy for the last 16 years.

Following the lighting of the Menorah, Deputy Chief of Mission Santosh Jha spoke about the rich and historic Jewish tradition in India and the continued deepening of bilateral ties as reflected in the recent high-level exchanges of visits.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, Mr. Martin Peled Minister for Congressional Affairs representing the Embassy of Israel, Ms. Toby Dershowitz AJC Washington Regional President, Mr. Kenneth Weinstein President & CEO of Hudson Institute, Rabbi Hyim Shafner, Mr. Clifford May Founder & President of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, Rabbanit Hadas Fruchter Assistant Spiritual Leader of the Beth Sholom Congregation and Talmud Torah and Mr. Gil Preuss CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington also addressed the gathering. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. David Bernstein, President & CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.
