Tip of the Month

Spotlight on Arizona!

Arizona has made an impressive commitment to identifying and serving all infants and children who are deaf or hard of hearing as early as possible.  Delivering statewide quality hearing screening in a wide range of settings, including...
  • Hospitals,
  • Birthing Centers,
  • Pediatric Clinics,
  • Early Intervention Programs and other
    Home Visiting Programs,
  • Early Head Start and Head Start programs,
  • Other Early Childhood and Preschool Programs,
  • All School-age Programs,

...is an ambitious goal!

As the Education and Advocacy Program Manager for the Office for Children with Special Health Care Needs Sensory Program in Arizona, Sonia Samaniego has integrated ECHO instructional modules into their screener training toolbox. Using these and other resources, she and her  colleagues have made significant screener training inroads throughout the State during 2018.
In short:

By offering 36 training sessions to
957 s
creeners from 65 different educational
programs and 10 pediatric clinics
. . . an estimated 15,000 families
have benefited from hearing screening.

Along with efforts to deliver uniform training to screeners across the state, the Sensory Program is also providing ongoing Technical Assistance and support to ensure that community partners can provide families with guidance in receiving follow up care and intervention.

Let's give all of the committed individuals in Arizona a big round of applause and stay tuned to see what they accomplish in 2019!!
