Vaccine Clinic For All 16+ Coming to our Community
Carjackings Down - Police Preparedness
Earth Day News
Dear Neighbors:

Tomorrow we will announce a new, easily accessible vaccine clinic for our community that will include all persons 16 years old and up.

We will alert you via this newsletter and social media when sign-ups are available. Please encourage others to sign up for our newsletter at www.ward43.org to receive the announcement.

This is a great opportunity for people in our ward to get vaccinated, especially those under 40 who have been the age group most impacted by recent spikes. Many people under 40 think they are healthy and will be lucky enough, if they get infected, to only have a minor case. I am suggesting that if they will not get vaccinated for themselves, do it for your community and to ensure that we can reopen fully.

Other Vaccine Options

Appointments for citywide Vaccination Clinics at the United Center and Wrigley Field can be made at Zocdoc. Other sites are:

While appointments are added daily at all locations, they are still filling up fast, so you will need to check locations often. If you need help navigating some of this, please call our office at 773-348-9500, and we will help you.

Bottom line: Get vaccinated.
Public Safety Updates

Increased Police Presence

The Chicago Police have released the following statement:

"The Chicago Police Department is closely monitoring the events across the country. While there is no actionable intelligence at this time, out of an abundance of caution, CPD will be deploying additional manpower across communities citywide, neighborhood retail corridors and the downtown business district.

To ensure public safety in all areas of the city and to supplement district personnel and resources, days off have been cancelled for members of the Community Safety Team, Critical Incident Response Team, Summer Mobile Patrol, all Area Detectives and additional specialized teams."

You should be noticing heavy equipment again in the area around North and Clybourn, as well as increased manpower in the Near North Side.

Carjacking Arrests

The work of the multi-jurisdictional task force to combat carjacking is reaping benefits. Even as the weather gets warmer and there were concerns for spikes in criminal activity, incidents of carjacking have gone down city-wide, from 65 to 20 a week, and arrests have gone up. In the last two weeks, seven individuals have been charged with hijacking.

Thank you to our 18th and 19th Districts, as well as their county, state and federal partners for working to combat these crimes. Their work continues.

Lake Shore was the lowest of four bidders for this contract which is intended to improve our recycling rates which have been appallingly low citywide—currently less than 10 percent.

Read the full story here. Our ward's recycling is collected by Streets and Sanitation employees.

Parks, Jobs, and Equity Act

One in three Americans don’t have a park close to home.
We can change that—but we need your help.
This Earth Month, join the Trust for Public Land’s campaign and use your outside voice to tell your Representative to pass the Parks, Jobs, and Equity Act, a $500 million emergency investment to bring more parks to more people in more places.
Support our Arts Community

You can help make sure that Chicago's arts community receives the urgent Covid recovery support that it deserves. As a result of the passage of the American Rescue Plan, Chicago is receiving $1.8 billion and Illinois is receiving $7.5 billion in funds. Decisions are being made now about how those dollars will be spent, and a portion must go to the arts.

Arts Alliance Illinois has created a petition to encourage Mayor Lightfoot to dedicate $25 million of Chicago's federal relief dollars to the devastated arts and cultural sector. Not only will this money go to stages, galleries, and meaningful arts experiences across Chicago, but it will also support education and community development community.

Please help our arts community by signing the petition here.
Alcott School LSC

The Alcott Local School Council (LSC) is looking for a new member to fill a vacancy in one of its community representative positions beginning on May 1, 2021.

  • Resides in Alcott Elementary’s attendance area
  • Is not the parent or legal guardian of a child currently enrolled at that school; and
  • Is not an employee of the CPS Board. Regular meetings are held once per month and are open to the public.

Serving on the LSC is a great opportunity to volunteer and get connected with the Alcott community. If you know someone who might be interested in serving as a community representative, please have them contact the LSC's chair, Nate Galer or Alcott's Principal, Mr. Estrada.
