Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
At OLQP, you will not find any references to a "Winter Holiday" or "Winter Celebration." Our halls are filled with Nativity scenes, references to Jesus's birth, and the Magi who will travel from one end of the school to Marian Hall in order to be there in time for prayer on the Monday after the Feast of the Epiphany (Jan. 6). Our students can experience the joys of Santa Claus, elves, and such as long as they understand whose birthday it is we are called to recognize and celebrate.
At morning prayer, students have been challenged to think about what a birthday gift for Our Lord would look like. If Jesus had a wish list, perhaps is would look like the Corporal Works of Mercy:
╈ Feed the hungry.
╈ Give drink to the thirsty.
╈ Clothe the poor.
╈ Visit the sick.
╈ Visit the imprisoned.
What will Our Lord's gift be under your Christmas tree? What can we give Him? He has told us:
"Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25:40)
As Christians, let us be motivated to serve our neighbor with generosity and compassion. As Christians, let us never be reluctant to proclaim:
Jesus is the reason for the season.
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
