With Dr. Mchale, principal of Cypress Creek HS, at the Lake Eola 5K & Half Marathon (story below)
In this week's update with only nine school days left in the first semester, we continue to celebrate a number of our student and staff success stories over recent days. I think our school community will be most impressed with the incredible efforts our Grenadiers have put forth over the final school weeks of 2018. This is not just in the classroom, but in serving others as well as performing on a larger stage outside of Orange County.

If you are opening this on Sunday, enjoy what is left of your weekend and thank you for looking over our progress!

Troupe 592

Classroom Spotlights

History with Ms. Adams - "The Harkness Circle"
Ms. Adams guides a completely student-led class, which is a research-based method of maximizing student engagement and understanding.

Students participated in a "Harkness Circle." On this day, students compared major world leaders and their strategies for leadership and connected it back to their own lives. One question that was posed was "Who Leads Best?" Each student facing in a circle could comment, clarify, question, quote, etc. about anything related to this topic and then students would answer each other's questions keeping the conversation going while Ms. Adams monitored.

Grenadiers in the Community

Colonial came together two weekends ago for the Lake Eola 5k/Half Marathon event in a huge way. Nearly 50 staff and faculty members, including the school's mascot, motivated themselves to be active together and take over the course in a morning run. Principal Martinez contributed to this team building event by purchasing team shirts for everyone involved.

Colonial's pride was highly visible and with the large numbers of Grenadiers in attendance, by the end of the event everyone there knew "It's Great to be a Grenadier!"

Student Services was well-represented at Saturday's race! This team continued the revelry last Monday by participating in #BlingBlingMonday.  Thanks again to Mr. Burley for coordinating the efforts!  It was a great team building experience for us, and we can't wait for the next one!

Colonial Supports Florida's Annual Media Conference
Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME)

On Wednesday, November 28th, Colonial assisted in the 46th Florida Association for Media in Education's Annual State Conference opening ceremonies. This is the yearly conference for school library media specialists. Our JROTC students, Ailish Almonte, Roger Baker, Janian Gonzalez, and Jorge Hernandez, did a wonderful job presenting the flags. The national anthem was beautifully sung by Paula Cortes Weil.

Our very own Mr. Martinez, who was introduced after Dr. Vazquez's welcome to Orange County, had the pleasure of introducing our Main campus Media Specialist extraordinaire and 2017-2018 FAME president, Andrea Parisi. In his speech, Mr. Martinez stressed the importance of library media specialists and making the Media Center a hub of the school.

Our Colonial representatives certainly showcased to the FAME conference that "It's Great to be a Grenadier!"
