Package of 4 Online Classes for $160
We love that we're able to offer classes with brilliant instructors to all writers, everywhere. If you've enjoyed learning from the comfort of your own home, or if you've been curious about our online classes but haven't yet taken the plunge, we're excited to offer a special deal to celebrate our writing community during the holiday season.
For a limited time, you can purchase a package of four Writers' League of Texas online classes, to be taken between January 1 and December 31, 2019, for $160. That's a savings of almost $40 off the regular member price (non-members can also purchase a package at a discounted rate).
You're not locked into any particular classes -- choose any four you'd like during the 2019 calendar year. Classes will be announced beginning in December 2018 and throughout 2019.
Topics will include classes focusing on particular craft issues for fiction and memoir, business issues such as the the agent search and publication process, and marketing issues for authors. In 2018, we held 28 online classes, and we expect to match that number next year. Plus, we'll introduce a new, easier-to-use digital platform for our online classes!
We hope you'll dedicate yourself to your writing in 2019, and we're here to help.

How to Give and Receive Writing Critiques

Giving and receiving good feedback is a learned skill that writers can develop and hone. Whether you're in a writing group or workshop, learning how to participate in and benefit from critiques can be invaluable to any writer looking to take their craft to the next level. In this class, you will learn what to consider when reading works with a critical eye.
In order to take the memoir and fiction Advanced Craft Workshops that will be offered in Spring 2019, this class is required if you do not have formal workshop experience. Questions? Give us a call: 512-499-8914.

ONLINE CLASS
Tackling the Problem of Memory in Memoir
Wednesday, December 12, 2018
6:30 to 9:30 p.m. CST
This class will examine the problem of memory by drawing on a blend of literature, art, and neuroscience in order to grapple with the question of how one selects, recounts, and handles moments of imperfect memory in the writing of memoir. Often, the stakes of these moments are high and various conflicting versions of a story exist. Did it really happen that way? Why do the witnesses disagree, and what does this mean for how I tell the story? At the heart of the issue is the question, "How does the memoirist acknowledge the flawed nature of memory while constructing a reliable narrative persona?"

Elizabeth Campbell Frey (E.C. Frey) of Fredericksburg, TX, will be joining fellow debut authors Cathy Zane and Bonnie C. Monte at BookPeople on Tuesday, December 4, at 7 PM for a book signing and a discussion about the trials, tribulations, and what they've learned from inspiration to publication. Sue Meredith Cleveland and Dixie Lee Evatt (Austin), writing as Meredith Lee, are thrilled that their latest novel Digging Up the Dead: A Crispin Leads Mystery has been singled out by BlueInk Reviews as one of its favorite books of 2018. More info here.

In mid-December, we'll be sending out a special year-end edition of our newsletter Footnotes to all of our many followers, and we'd like to include a significant Member News section that highlights some of the wonderful things that have happened within our Writers' League community this year.
If you're a current WLT member and you'd like to be included, please fill out THIS FORM with details about something from 2018 you're celebrating as the year draws to a close -- i.e., your book's publication, an award or honor you received, or maybe the launch of your blog or website. You can also include up to one website address that we can hyperlink to. (It's okay if you already included this news in one of our Footnotes newsletters this year.)

An Evening of Literary Shenanigans!

One Page Salon

One Page Salon (called "the best literary evening in town" by the
Austin American-Statesman) is the brainchild of novelist, screenwriter, and comedian Owen Egerton. During the course of the evening, five writers will read a single page from a work in progress (goodbye, literary readings that go on and on and on) and answer three questions from the hosts (hello, witty banter with the incomparable Owen Egerton). Hear works-in-progress by these familiar faces: Maya Perez, Richard Santos, Sasha West, and Jennifer Ziegler
One person from the audience will have the opportunity to read one page of their work. If you're interested, bring the page and put your name on the list once you arrive.
Plus, by popular demand, we'll bring back the One Sentence Salon.
