While it may not seem like it in all areas of the country, autumn is finally here and we are looking forward to some cooler and calmer weather. We hope that in the wake of Hurricane Florence all of our Commissioners are safe. We are aware that some in the CAAHEP organization family have sustained damage to their homes and our thoughts are with them.
CHEA Activity
On September 26, 2018, the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) announced that the CHEA Board approved the revisions to the
2010
CHEA
Recognition of Accrediting Organizations Policy and Procedures
. The revised policy will go into effect on January 1, 2019. As you may remember, CAAHEP is recognized by CHEA. This will mean some big changes in the recognition process for CAAHEP. We will keep you posted as the transition framework being created by CHEA is finalized.
In response to questions on CAAHEP's mid-term report to CHEA, I was able to report to the Board that CAAHEP staff member, Katie Davis
, has managed to compile the URLs for the student achievement outcomes of nearly every CAAHEP programs with continuing accreditation
, and was able to report to CHEA that we lack just 7 missing or broken URLs. CHEA is requiring 100% of CAAHEP continuing accredited programs must post outcomes links on their websites. The full CAAHEP mid-term response to CHEA was sent this week.
Board Activity
The CAAHEP Board met September 21st and took accreditation actions on 109 programs. In addition, reports were presented by the President Greg Ferenchak, Treasurer Barry Eckert, and me on the activities of the organization.
The President appointed members of the Bylaws Committee and the Annual Meeting Planning Committee. Both groups have met, making great strides in suggesting changes to the Bylaws, as well as drafting an interesting Annual Meeting agenda.
The finance report was in draft form due to the ongoing annual audit, and Treasurer Eckert reported that the investment portfolio remained stable the last couple months at approximately $1.5 million.
Strategic Plan Activity
With the 2015-2018 Strategic Plan completed, the Governance Committee has selected leaders to conduct the 2019-2021 Strategic Planning session which is scheduled for January 2019. We welcome the Commissioners' suggestions of initiatives or goals for the organization. Please
share your thoughts with me
or with
President Ferenchak
.
As always, we welcome your questions and thoughts, so please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Kathy
