Happy Holidays! Thank you for your participation in your industry trade association.  We hope you have taken advantage of the many benefits that comes with CCTI membership, including meetings, education, the CCTI Technical Committee, the Industry Directory, participation in PackEXPO trade shows, member communications via CanTube.org and the CanTube Bulletin, supplier networking, as well as, the legislative and regulatory updates that we provide your company.

Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the CCTI Annual Meeting in Dallas/Ft. Worth on May 19-21, 2019.  Highlights will include a plant tour, social networking and educational sessions.  We hope you'll bring additional staff and guests to enjoy this annual industry gathering.  Remember, a benefit of your CCTI company membership is the opportunity to include additional employee names to receive the CanTube Bulletin and bring them to meetings at the member discounted rate. We encourage you to utilize these benefits. Please contact the office with any additional names to include on our e-distribution list.

Your continued voice in the industry is incredibly valuable and because of that, 2019 will offer CCTI members new ways to engage. We are creating the CCTI Featured Member article, in each CanTube Bulletin, that will highlight what each of you do as a valued CCTI member company.

In addition to the CCTI Annual and Fall Meetings, and an active Technical Committee, the CCTI board of directors has appointed committees to update the Guarding and Safety Manual and are also exploring an opportunity for an industry certification program for tube and core plants.  If you would like to participate in any of these committees, please email   [email protected] and we will connect you with the committee chairmen.

Early next year, we will be reaching out to you to update your listing in the  CCTI Industry Directory.  Please take a few minutes to review your product lines, key leadership contacts and company blurb.  This information is a valuable resource for vendors and potential clients.  As a reminder, a downloadable version of the directory is always available on the CanTube.org website.

We appreciate your continued commitment to the industry and CCTI and wish you the Happiest of Holidays and continued success in the New Year.  If any of our staff members can be of assistance to you  please do not hesitate to call or email me.

Best,
Andrea Ball

US pulp, paper industry's third quarter performance matches all-time records for profitability and margins

US pulp, paper, and forest products firms turned in another strong performance in the third quarter of 2018, building on a record-breaking second quarter and setting the industry on pace for one of the best years it's seen for at least a generation. With the strong US economy boosting demand for packaged goods and China's steadfast resolve to shun tainted recovered paper imports elevating the price of virgin fiber, pulp and packaging sector firms did particularly well. But graphic papermakers, too, posted strong results in the quarter.

Supply reductions from machine conversions and capacity cuts combined with lower than anticipated demand erosion - enabling producers to undo years of declining prices and boost earnings.Yet it was not all good news. Executives on earnings calls referenced operational headwinds from rising input costs for transportation, chemicals, and market pulp, with tissue players in particular noting the impact of escalating pulp and freight costs. There were literal headwinds, too, in some cases, with hurricanes Florence and Matthew
