Greetings!
It seems ironic that Mother's Day should fall on the Sunday that we learn about Jesus' love for us and how he expects us to love one another.
Theoretically, our first experience with love comes from our mothers. That bond between mother and child grows even before the baby is born. The baby can hear its mother's voice when she speaks or sings or yells or cries. The baby gets used to the mother's movements. The baby even has some sense of its mother's emotional state. And the mother gets to know the baby by its movements. Some baby's are extremely active and others are rather placid which gives a clue to their personality. Mothers often form notions of what their unborn child is like before it arrives! And they are very often surprised when they meet their baby!! But nevertheless, there is an intrinsic connection that is more than just physical. But not all pregnancies are perfect...just as no mothers are perfect and no babies are perfect. Sometimes, things don't go as planned. But always there is this ideal that we hold that our mothers are the first ones to show us what love is like. And if all goes well, that's what happens. And if it doesn't, we still learn about love along the way. How did you first learn about love?
