MCGOUGH NATURE PARK RENOVATIONS
Portions of the asphalt trail at McGough Nature Park will be closed for the next two weeks to complete improvements to the surfacing. Approximately 2500 feet of the trail will be covered with a recycled rubber material that will be poured directly over the asphalt. The project is funded by a grant through Pinellas County as part of a financial settlement resulting from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

PROJECT UPDATES
SEWER REHABILITATION PROJECT - MANHOLE REHABILITATION
As an ongoing effort to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows in the City of Largo, the Engineering Services Department is conducting a multi-phased set of sanitary sewer projects in the neighborhood east of the Pinecrest Golf Club and Taylor Lake. Manhole rehabilitation work will be completed within the next 60 days.

This work will occur in the general area bounded between the following roads:
  • North of 16th Avenue SW
  • South of 2nd Avenue NW
  • East of Pinecrest Golf Club and Taylor Lake
  • West of Ridge Road SW
Engineering Services has mailed out postcards to everyone living within the area informing them of work that will be occurring throughout the area. Residents and those traveling within this area may encounter trucks and equipment located around a manhole, so for the safety of the workers, please drive with care when encountering work zones.

SMOKE TESTING OF SEWER LINES
As an ongoing effort to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows in the City of Largo, t he City of Largo has hired McKim & Creed, Inc. to smoke test the sanitary sewer system in the approximate area between Betty Ln to Keene Rd and Belleair Rd to 8th Ave NE. All properties affected by this testing have been sent a letter from the City notifying them of the testing. Door hangers will also be placed at those properties prior to the testing. Testing is scheduled to start on December 13th and will continue through December 14th. The schedule is weather dependent.

Occupants receiving notification should pour a gallon of water down each sink, shower, bathtub, toilet, floor drain or any other connection to the sanitary sewer to ensure there are no dry sewer traps in the plumbing.

The testing will help locate potential areas where stormwater or groundwater might be entering the sanitary sewer system. Smoke will be circulated into the sewer lines and manholes to locate broken pipes and other defects, and may exit from vent pipes on home roofs. The smoke is non-toxic, leaves no residue and creates no fire hazard. The smoke will not enter the house unless there is defective plumbing present or the drain traps are dry. If potential problems are found on private property, owners will be notified of repairs that may need to be made.

For more information, residents should call McKim and Creed, Inc. at (727)442-7196 or for Spanish translation services; contact Myrna Anderson with the City of Largo at (727)587-6713 ext. 4403.
