 Uri Feinberg Scholar-in-Residence
December 7–9, 2018
Friday, December 7 at 6:15pm Erev Shabbat Services
Saturday, December 8 at 9:00am Torah Study & Bagel Nosh
Sunday, December 9 at 9:00am Raker Religious School

We are delighted to bring Uri Feinberg to Temple Solel as this year’s Scholar-in-Residence. Uri is a tour guide in Israel, where he has lived for most of his life. Since serving as a paratrooper in the IDF, Uri has served his country and the Jewish people as a master, Jewish educator. Uri works to strengthen Jewish identity, create relationships with the State of Israel, and encourage Jewish communities in North America to ask questions. Along with his wife, Meryl, and their three daughters, Uri is an active member of Kehillat YOZMA, the Reform community of Modi’in. Temple Solel’s last trip to Israel (December 2017) was blessed to have Uri as our guide, through ARZA World/Daat Tours. Saying Uri is the best is not hyperbole. Come experience Uri yourself!
PLEASE NOTE
Vodka Latke/Latke Vodka has been cancelled. Please stay tuned for future special events.

Join Temple Solel Social Action
On Wednesday, December 19, Temple Solel will be hosting a holiday party for JFCS. The party is specifically for foster kids and we are asking for donations of desserts to be dropped off that day before 5:00pm as well as cash contributions to the Social Action Fund at Temple Solel to help offset the cost of preparing the dinner. There are also volunteer opportunities to help serve food and pack up the leftovers for the kids to take home at the end of the night. The kids prefer anything “chocolate.” We expect to have around 150 foster children attending this well-received event. We thank you in advance for your continued love and support for these children.

Art@Solel
ART SHOWCASE, featuring art by Temple members, displays a retrospective of 16 temple member artists entitled "Favorites". Each artist has selected two favorite pieces to display. A special “Meet the Artist” reception will be held on Sunday morning, January 27, 2019, at 10:30am in the Social Hall.

All the art pieces are for sale, many at reduced prices, and the artists will send a portion of the proceeds to the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh or their favorite Jewish organization.

Security at Solel
We appreciate all of the suggestions we have received from our community. Our security will be enhanced because of your insight, expertise, and cooperation. We want to be sure to gather all of your ideas thoroughly and systematically with our Security Committee. We ask that you submit all of your ideas and comments to security@templesolel.org
The doors on the west side of our building (nearest the parking lot) are now equipped with alarms and they are emergency exits only as recommended by our security consultants and security committee. Thank you for your patience as we improve the safety and
security of our community.
Book Club News
Temple Solel Book Club will meet this Tuesday, December 11 at 6:00 in the library . Bring a dairy, fish, or vegetarian dish to share for potluck dinner. At 6:30 the magic begins. We will share our insights into the book of the session, In the Enemy’s House by Howard Blum. It's a fairly quick read, so you can start today and finish it in time for the meeting.
In the Enemy’s House is a nonfiction tale of post-World War II espionage involving KGB-run spies strategically placed in the United States with the goal of infiltrating American intelligence and stealing our military and atomic secrets. Two American intelligence officers, one a codebreaker and the other a young FBI supervisor, worked for a decade to uncover the Soviet agents and to protect our strategic secrets, most especially the atomic bomb. It’s real life Spy vs. Spy during the Cold War.
