Travel Soccer Tryout News
Information about NEW tryout and acceptance procedures for existing travel players, and the registration link was emailed to all current travel players on Monday. If you did not receive this email please contact your team manager or Kris South at  travel@fcrichmond.com .
Recreational soccer players and players from outside FC Richmond may register for our tryouts by clicking HERE . No information on tryout dates is available yet. Please check our Tryout page for updates and information. It is our intent to hold tryouts as quickly as possible following a lift on the Virginia stay-at-home order. We can't wait to get back on the field together!
Get Moving with the Techne Futbol App
FC Richmond has partnered with Techne Futbol to provide a resource that will guide travel team and PDP players in their individual development while at home. The Techne Futbol app was developed by long-time professional player Yael Averbuch.

In each Techne session, players have three topics: juggling, dribbling and wall work. There are many different exercises within the three topics. Each focus has a video to show the proper technique. Coaches will be tracking players' progress and looking at the leaderboard. So far our players have spent over 750 hours training! We want to see all of our players involved. The leaderboard changes hourly...so get up, get on and get moving!
Soccer Homework
During this time at home it is important to stay fit, continue to work with the ball, and watch games and highlights to continue to learn. The weekly Soccer Homework is in place to provide these opportunities to all players so you are ready once we return to the field. Your continued growth and development are ultimately up to you and how hard you are willing to work and push yourself ON YOUR OWN. Too often we rely on others (coaches, team-mates, parents) to motivate us, when motivation should be intrinsic. This means you have an internal drive to compete with yourself to improve. If ever there was a time to develop and test your intrinsic motivation, IT IS NOW!

We love seeing the videos of you working hard to complete the homework and the challenges posted on social media. Keep the videos coming!

Staying Connected
Jason Claybrook, current U12 recreational girls team coach, shared ways that his team is staying in touch and staying positive!

"For the past four years we’ve had a core group of girls who met and became friends through their participation through FC. Over the years our team has grown along with the new friendships that being teammates nurtures.

Some of the girls attend the same schools and see each other everyday. Others only see each other during the fall and spring seasons, but they always pick back up where they left off.

We were all looking forward to getting back together this season prior to COVID-19. We were able to get in 2 practices and were looking forward to our first game of the season only a week away.

Now that we are all watching from the sidelines, we have collectively agreed to use our designated practice nights of Thursday night to conduct a Zoom virtual practice with the team members and parents. We are keeping the conversation light and allowing each of the players time to provide updates.

We are also planning to have the players coordinate a donation drive in the spirit of teamwork and collaboration. We haven’t decided what that will be yet but will be putting that in motion in the near future. We want the players to use this time to reconnect but also do something for others during this time of need."

We hope all teams are able to find creative ways to stay conne cted during this unique time. Thank you, Jason, for sharing your story!
"Beyond the Game" Player of the Month
Our April “Beyond the Game” player of the month is Maryn Ray, an outgoing player in our Rec program! Maryn volunteers with “Homework Helpers”, a tutoring program that gives English Second-Language students extra support. Due to the school time changes, help was needed to spend time with the students until the tutors arrived, so Maryn took the initiative! She described her experiences by saying “I love to be able to help but also to get to know and hangout with the kids. I am really glad I got this opportunity”. Maryn has been going “Beyond the Game” by volunteering with a great program like Homework Helpers. We appreciate your efforts Maryn, great job!
Support for O'Toole's Restaurant
Our friends at O'Toole's Restaurants would love your support right now! They are working hard to bring delicious food right to your car for curbside delivery. Not only do the O'Tooles have an FCR Mystx alum, but John O'Toole has been an incredible friend to our club. He has catered many events and fed many a hungry soccer player over the years. We know it's going to be a great meal when John drives up in his white truck and starts unloading food! O'Toole's has been a Richmond institution for as long as we can remember. Now they are trying to navigate these very difficult times. Please consider them when you need a break from cooking! Click HERE to see the O'Toole's menu
