We have the privilege to announce Dr. Mary Hagedorn of the Smithsonian Institute as the Keynote Speaker of the Zebrafish Husbandry Workshop at Aquaculture America 2020. She will be speaking on Using Technology for Conservation: Zebrafish Embryos to Coral Larvae.
Dr. Hagedorn is a leading marine biologist and senior research scientist at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. She is at the forefront of coral conservation initiatives, leading a global network of scientists in one of the most unique ocean-conservation programs in the world today, called the Reef Recovery Initiative which focuses on cryopreservation of marine species. Dr. Hagedorn honed her cryopreservation technique on zebrafish, developing a novel solution that involved microinjecting a “cryoprotectant” into zebrafish eggs.
Dr. Hagedorn will be giving her keynote speech on Tuesday, February 11th at 1:30 pm.
