Dan J. Wininger, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Dan had a true gift for working with cars, opening Wininger Auto Body in Joplin in 1988. He shared this talent and his artist’s eye with his son who now runs the business. In his later years he invested in the next generation, teaching collision repair as an instructor at Franklin Tech. He was an active member of the SSR-Fanatics, frequently attending their car shows with his customized ride.
Dan had a passion for singing, whether he was serenading his wife or performing vintage classics on the local karaoke stage. He found joy in the simple things of life, including a drive on a backroad with his wife, a good cup of coffee among friends, an evening spent with his family or a well-constructed ice-cream cone.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory. For a more detailed obituary please click here.

Joplin Eagles are on the move!
There are great things being done by Joplin Eagles! Please join us in recognizing the following Eagles for their remarkable service to the District and it's students!

Cindy Myers is a veteran SPED Teacher that has taken on the role of teaching special education virtually this year, and she has done an amazing job. She concerns herself with the academic aspects of virtual instruction but is also highly attuned to the overall wellbeing of her virtual students. For example, in an effort to bring a sense of normalcy to one aspect of virtual school life, Cindy planned a virtual Halloween party for her students. The day of regular Halloween parties, she and her students joined a virtual meeting in full Halloween garb, enjoyed snacks and a Halloween story together, and partied just like their in-person counterparts!
Thank you Cindy for taking on this challenge full-speed and making this new normal the best it can be for our students with special needs! This is yet another example of how our teachers go above and beyond to support all of our students!

Hats off to the Finance Department for their hard work and dedication to the responsibilities they fulfill on a daily basis! Through each of their roles, they impact every student, program, service, and staff member in the District as they monitor and process receipts and expenditures of approximately $100 million each year. Under normal circumstances, this comes with significant challenges including timelines, laws and regulations to comply with, as well as the complexity of generating payrolls for over 1,500 employees over multiple payroll schedules. These challenges have drastically increased with COVID-19, but our Finance team has risen to the occasion.
As if this there was not enough to face this year, a new financial management system was implemented on July 1. The learning curve has been steep and stressful, but the team has gone above and beyond to ensure the transition was successful. This is resulting in better financial decision making, greater use of district resources, and of course higher efficiencies to get District employees paid!
Thank you Cheryl Wangler, Tracy Boyd, Karla Wallace, Sarah Lopez, GG Mathis, and Shelly Toft for your dedication to the District!
