Dear Friend of CCSD93,
Students Focus on Computer Science as #D93Codes
This week, students at all CCSD93 schools took on coding activities as part of Hour of Code, a worldwide movement this week, which is designed to teach students the basics of coding and expose them further to the field of computer science as a potential future career opportunity.

Our students are coding not only this week, but throughout the year, as our new Strategic Plan places a greater emphasis on computer science as part of Strategic Goal 1: A Relevant Education for All Students. Below are a few photos of coding throughout CCSD93.

Middle School Students Learn About Careers...
& More!
This week, 7th graders at Stratford got to learn about various career opportunities during Career Day! The event was put on in partnership with Junior Achievement and gave students exposure to a variety of fields to help spark further interest in what they'd like to do when they are older. Jay Stream students will have a similar opportunity next month. School Board President Keith Briggs served as keynote speaker, emphasizing the value of the day's opportunities.

Mr. Briggs and I also had the chance to celebrate this month's 7th grade Stallion Standouts, who earned recognition for being respectful and responsible students, and got to visit the school's technology-rich morning announcement production studio. Here are images the day at Stratford.

Flags Flown at Half Mast This Week to Honor President Bush
This week our flags were flown at half mast to honor George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, who passed last Friday.
Remembering Pearl Harbor
Today is the 77th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the day that will live in infamy. Many of our students received lessons on the significance of this day, how it directly led to the U.S. entry into World War II, and how this solemn occasion changed the course of history for the entire world.

Have a terrific weekend!

Sincerely,

Bill Shields, Ed.D.
