Santa Secret Shop is next week
This annual student only shopping tradition, sponsored by the Parent Association, is coming on
Dec. 11th & 13th.

Teachers will soon be sending home a budget envelope for you and your child to decide how much they can spend on gifts. You will enclose either check or cash. (Checks should be payable to St. Rose PA, and the check amount left blank, to be filled in by the cashier.) This is an optional shopping event. Not all students participate.

Only those students who turn a money envelope into their teacher before the class shopping time will go to the Secret Store.  Money envelopes must be turned into your teacher by Tuesday, Dec. 11th.
Now is a good time for students to earn shopping money at home by doing chores, or budgeting allowance money. Gifts cost between $1 - $25.

Volunteer opportunity: A limited number of 'Elves' are needed to help students shop, cash out and for gift wrapping. Please go to this link to sign-up.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090F4CACAC2CA0F49-strose

All Volunteers must already be 100% compliant with Diocese Volunteer policy.
Advent Craft-Making Fair
St. Luke Lutheran Church
Dec. 8th - 9:00am - 11:00am
Our friends at St. Luke Lutheran Church, who provided a home to our preschool for a few months after the fire last year, have extended an invitation to our families to come have some fun at
their Advent Craft-Making Fair.
St. Luke Lutheran Church / 905 Mendocino Ave. / Santa Rosa
A Note from Mrs. Ryan
Dear Parents,

Our teachers enjoyed meeting with you last week to discuss your child's progress. It is likely that they spoke with you about ways you can support your child's learning at home.

In the primary grades there is no substitute for short sessions at home practicing sight words and basic math facts. Even five minutes a day can make a significant difference. By the time students reach third grade it is essential they read at home every night. Some children need more work in fluency and it is helpful if they read aloud to you.

The reading scores of students, young and old, who love recreational reading, usually soar. When you model a love of reading to your children, read aloud to them, and provide time for them to read to themselves, you create a positive impact on their literacy skills. Engaging them in short discussions about what you both are reading can also have a big impact. Here is a short article that outlines things you can do at home to increase your child's literacy and instill a lifelong love of reading: www.ahaparenting.com/parenting-tools/intelligent-creative-child/child-loves-read

Awhile back, Lindsey Hahn, our first grade teacher became engaged to the love of her life. Recently she and her finance, Jon, decided to make a permanent commitment to each other in a private ceremony. They are planning a more formal wedding in the future. Congratulations, Lindsey and Jon!

As you know, St. Rose is preparing for an accreditation visit in March. We conducted a parent survey in early 2017 as part of the process. Since so much has happened in the past year, we have created an addendum to the survey. It is a brief survey that will only take a few minutes to complete. We would greatly appreciate your input. TOOLBOX by Dovetail Learning
Earlier this year, St. Rose faculty & staff implemented a new program that supports children in understanding and managing their own emotional, social, and academic success. The foundation of Toolbox is 12 human capacities that reside within all of us. TOOLBOX brings forward a set of skills and practices that help students access their own inner resilience at any time, in any context.

Dovetail Learning is offering an online Parent Webinar, designed to help parents become the parents that they want to be. It includes an overview of the 12 Tools and how they can help when challenges arise at home.
The NEXT TOOLBOX Parent Online Webinar is Dec. 13th at 3:15 PM.  Click HERE to Join the Webinar meeting.
