Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ, 
Christians love this time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. One of my favorite Christmas carols is "Go Tell It on the Mountain," which encourages us to share the great news "over the hills and everywhere" that a Savior has been born.
The Global Prayer Digest devotional for Monday, December 3, 2018 reminds us that while we will be singing Christmas carols, there are people who are afraid to learn more about Jesus. The Global Prayer Digest shares this story:
Noor, a Yemenite girl, was listening to some beautiful music being played on a guitar by a younger girl. "Matria, where did you learn to play like that?" She responded, "I received free lessons from music teachers. It helped me get my mind off the fear and pain of the war."
Noor replied, "The music is soothing! I have found something too that is calming my heart each day. A friend gave me some verses from the Bible. One was from Psalm 25:5, 'Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.' Whenever I am angry, sad or afraid, I recite this verse. There is another verse about Isa, Jesus, that says..."
Matria cut her off. "I do not want to hear this kind of talk! Things are hard enough here in Yemen, and if people read the Bible rather than the Qur'an, it will get even worse!"
The Global Prayer Digest went on to say that the ongoing war has led many Yemenis disenchanted with Islam to come to know Jesus.
Living in the "Bible Belt" makes it easy for us to forget that there are people in the world who either have never had the opportunity to hear about Jesus or find that doing so is very dangerous. There are so many ways for a person here to encounter the good news of Christ, but such is not the case in many places abroad.
As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, let us remember our responsibility to tell the world what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. If you would like to pray regularly for those who either don't know Jesus or find that following him is very dangerous, you may want to visit www.globalprayerdigest.org. This excellent site offers practical ways to intercede for various people groups each day.

The Session has called a meeting of the congregation of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church for
Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the 11:00 am service
for the purpose of hearing the report of the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee and acting on its recommendation to approve the terms of call and extend a call to fill the position of Associate Pastor of the Next Generation.
New Baby: Josh and Amy Arrington's first baby arrived on 11/25/18 at 5:18 pm. Her name is Ansley Jean and she was 6 lbs. 10 oz and 20 inches long.
Upcoming Baptism:
Alaia Kate
Ossa, daughter of Edward Ossa and Eliana Agudelo will receive the Sacrament of Baptism - this baptism has been rescheduled to January 2019.

Lessons & Carols Service:
Sun., Dec. 9 at 11:00 am (Sanctuary). Join the Saxe Gotha Choirs, Ensembles & Musicians as we sing Christmas carols.
Christmas Service Project:
Sun., Dec. 23-Sunday School will be at 9:00 a.m. then all services come together for a brief message at 10:00 am followed by a service project at 11:00 am.
Christmas Eve Services:
Mon., Dec. 24, at 4:00 pm (Families), 5:30 pm (AWE Contemporary in LH); 7:00 pm (Traditional). Childcare is provided at the 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm services.
Dec. 30 Worship:
Traditional Services at 8:30 and 11:00 am. Contemporary Service at 10:45 am. Sunday School at 9:45-10:30 am.
Church Offices will be closed on December 24, 25 and 31 and January 1.

Amahl and the Night Visitors Musical
Friday, Dec. 14 and 15 at 7:30 (Saxe Gotha Light House)
This musical tells the story of the Three Kings who visit a poor, crippled boy and his widowed mother. This is an exciting production for us at Saxe Gotha. It is unique that we have a young man playing Amahl and his actual mother playing the role of his mother! Our stage director has worked internationally, and members of the USC voice faculty will be involved in this unique Christmas performance. You do not want to miss this family friendly event!

Love Offering:
We will again collect a Christmas Love
Offering for  the SGPC staff members this year on Dec. 9. The envelopes are in the pews and can be turned in to the offering plate or church office. If you would like to make a contribution, please use the Love Offering envelopes and/or note in the memo line of personal checks "staff love offering". Thank you for all that you do in support of our church employees in recognizing their dedication to the mission of Saxe Gotha.

GriefShare: Join us on a journey of faith, hope and healing.  GriefShare is a 13-week seminar and support group designed for those who have experienced loss. Each session is self-contained and includes a video featuring some of the foremost Christian experts on grief, followed by a group discussion. Grief Share meets every Sunday in the Welcome Center from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, beginning January 6. Cost is $15 for the workbook. The Session Facilities Committee is attempting to gather all of the
 church construction drawings and other documents into one area and make them available via computer to those needing them. We are still missing drawings of some of the phases of expansion. Drive Thru Prayer:

Join together as we love and support community members in need of prayer. We will need prayer warriors, enthusiastic sign holders and traffic directors. Memory Café

Lexington One Backpack Program:
Saxe Gotha partners with Lexington  School District One to support the Backpack Program.
Items Needed for Backpacks:
juice boxes, cereal/granola bars, snack crackers, single serving cereal boxes/bowls, raisins, peanut butter, fruit cups/pouches (please no applesauce cups), pudding cups, oatmeal packets.
