New Murals Adorn Culverts Along Trail at Walnut Bend

Local artist Reginald Adams recently completed two vibrant murals along the District's trail system. The murals are located on both sides of the box culvert on Walnut Bend Lane, where Walnut Bend spans a Harris County flood control channel (between Meadowglen Lane and Richmond Avenue). The District's Library Loop Trail follows along the channel.

The east side of the culvert (top) features colorful marine life while the west side (bottom) is decorated with lush plants. Adams has plans to paint one more culvert, at the eastern end of the trail at Rogerdale Road, before year's end. Adams' other work in Westchase District includes mosaics along the trail system near Harwin Park and the mural on the eastern wall of Westchase Auto Repair at 10611 Westheimer Road. In 2018, the District has commissioned seven public art installations throughout the area, and four more murals are planned for 2019.

Market Vendors Have Your Gifts Ready

One of the best parts of holiday shopping is the shopping experience itself. "The farmers market is the perfect place to spend time out with family and to experience festive decorations and displays, holiday sounds and smells, and - maybe best of all - Christmas sales and deals," said John Carey market manager. From meats and sides to snacks and desserts, you'll find most of the fixin's for your holiday celebrations at the market.

"We'll have Santa Claus himself at the market for free photo opportunities on Thursday, Dec. 13, and we'll be open for business on both December 20 and 27, so you can count on us for your last-minute gifts," Carey added. "You'll feel good knowing that you're supporting the local economy and you'll feel even better about your gift selections."

It's Santa, Baby! Jolly ol' St. Nick himself will be at the market from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 13 for free photo opportunities and to hear your wish lists.
