Introducing "The Cardigan" Newsletter
It is essential to stay on top of the ever-changing world of children's librarianship, but with so many social media platforms and trending topics, it can be a challenge. That's where "The Cardigan" comes in! It's a newsletter that will drop into your inbox once a month with new research, books, fun programs, and lots of other tips and tricks related to library services for children. Their motto is "it takes a neighborhood to nourish a Children's Librarian." And couldn't we all use a little more professional nourishment?

Award Season is the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
The Caldecott and Newbery awards are nearly upon us! Do you have a favorite book that you are rooting for or are you still looking for the title you think will win that coveted award seal? School Library Journal has some predictions for this year's awards online. The American Library Association will announce the official winners on Mon., Jan. 28 at 11:00 am EST.
Libraries Rock feels like a distant memory as many library staff immerse themselves in all things outer space. The State Library of Ohio has put together an excellent collection of resources for Summer Reading 2019: A Universe of Stories, including workshop information, potential programs and performers, and more.
Ohio Ready to Read has a four-part tutorial that shows how and why to develop a "digital sensory storytime," as one way to include children with autism in your library programming. Each part of this training ranges from 15-26 minutes long, making it easy to learn in small bites. This training also includes a resource guide.
Winter weather have you hesitant to travel for training? The American Library Services to Children division of the American Library Association (ALSC) has you covered! They are hosting a series of webinars presented by experts outside of the library world, including:
Spaces and Behavior Management | Dec. 6 (3 pm)
Reading Life Between the Lines: Using Children's Literature for Tough Conversations about Diversity | Feb. 26 (1 pm)
Serving Refugee and Immigrant Families | April 9 (3 pm)
The Children's Services Division is now accepting program submissions for the 2019 OLC Convention and Expo, scheduled for Sept. 25-27, in Cincinnati. Share your expertise with your fellow children's librarians!
Deadline for program submissions is Feb. 1, 2019. More information can be found on OLC's website.
In addition, a call for programs will be issued on Dec. 12 for the OLC's all-new Community Engagement Conference. Please consider having the Children's Service Division sponsor your submission.
