A Letter from the President
Dear ASID Michigan Members,

Welcome to FY2019! I never thought I would be leading the Michigan Chapter as your new President, but I am very grateful to be here to represent your interests and our industry in the Mitten State.  When I joined ASID as a student years ago, it seemed a natural fit for me. I detoured law school for design school, and I wanted to be involved in shaping our profession. ASID has given me so much as a designer and a person, and I am grateful to share that with you.

This journey will have bumps, detours and roadblocks. I am confident in our team and our organization. I know we can build our numbers by actively recruiting new members, and sponsors. We all have a role to play in the strength of our Chapter. We are many, and stronger together.  As we make some vital, necessary changes and evolve as a Chapter, I want your input.

I want to know how I can best serve you, our members. My email is always available - my virtual door always open.  Your voices resonate with me, and to this entire Board. We work to benefit not ourselves, but you, and your best interests. Thank you for your confidence in me to lead your Board and your ASID Michigan Chapter. And thank you so very much for continuing your membership in the American Society of Interior Designers. It means more than you might think to our profession and to designing for the health, safey, welfare and enjoyment of the public. Our work matters, and your desire to be a part of something larger demonstrates that.

Regards,
Andy Yates, Allied ASID

Member Spotlight:
Janice Kitchen, ASID, LEED, At-Large Director
I have been involved in the interior design industry for 29 years, primarily focused on commercial A/E work with a balance of residential, as well. I have been involved in ASID for almost as long! I knew I wanted to be a designer when I was in 4th grade! I graduated from Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, and went on to Parsons School of Design, NY NY to get my second degree in Environmental Design. During my 16 year stay in the "Big Apple" I worked at three firms and focused on healthcare, higher ed, corporate, residential, and retail work. I also had a freelance business doing set design for television and corporate.I have been employed in the commercial design industry with a focus in sustainable design.
I look forward to being on the ASID MI Chapter board again - making our chapter stronger, purposeful, and exciting!
