Dear Senior Me
Last week, current 9th Grade Literature students had the opportunity to write a letter to their senior selves.  Ms. Hamlin encouraged them to write about their current peer group and family, their favorite teachers, hopes and dreams for the future and what they plan to accomplish over the next three years.  Letters will be sealed and returned to them in May 2022.
Students Tests Acidity of Household Substances
Mrs. Holloway and Mrs. Chafin's students classified common household substances as acidic, basic, or neutral. They used Red Cabbage pH Indicator to make their determinations. The students also identified how acidic or basic a substance was by comparing the color change of the Red Cabbage pH Indicator to a Red Cabbage pH Indicator Scale.
Biology Escape Room Challenge
Mrs. McIntosh's biology classes competed in an Escape Room Challenge to prepare for the Milestone. They had to work in pairs to accurately complete a variety of tasks relevant to the standards learned.  They raced around the room to find their clues and ultimately escape biology!!
Lessons in Nature: Killdeer Bird Protecting Her Eggs
Just look what nature had waiting for for Mrs. Dews' 4th period as they took a quick nature walk looking for biotic and abiotic factors! They thought perhaps this bird had fallen out of the tree above but upon further investigation they realized she was protecting her eggs. After returning to class, they researched more about this bird and found out it was a killdeer bird and that they actually lay their eggs on the ground. Killdeer do the classic distraction display to protect their nests, complete with pathetic squeaking, limping, and dragging a "broken" wing. So cool that they got to see this behavior!!! Just a reminder of how nature is the best teacher!  They left her alone....after all it was Mother's day weekend!:)
Spring Surveys

We are requesting the parent fill out one survey response for each student so we get accurate data for each school.

Surveys will remain open through Friday, May 24.
Don't Blink
by Brianna Morgan

Throughout our lives, we have experienced many new beginnings from our first day of  school, our first dance and our first kiss. Things change so quickly that sometimes we don't even  realize it until it's gone. As Theodor Seuss Geisel once said, "Sometimes you will never know  the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." It is so important for high school students to  realize how little time they truly have with their friends. These are some of the best and easiest  days of our lives. We need to cherish the moments we have with each other and not focus on the  negative.

Twenty-five years from now when you're telling your teenage son or daughter about your  years in high school, you won't remember the score you got on a test, Read more.

*Periodically a student from the Empescope class writes a feature article for The Bulldog Beat.
