Finding Hope While Trying to Heal
Paul was overwhelmed. He had recently and unexpectedly gained full custody of his kids. While he was grateful for the time with his children, it came at a great expense: they had to be relocated to his home after suffering abuse from a sibling while living out of state with their mother.

Thankfully, Paul’s kids quickly began counseling with the Corbett Trauma Center after relocating to Tampa. Between attending counseling sessions and court dates, though, Paul had to miss a lot of work and was falling behind in his rent. He confided in Corbett staff that he was struggling financially and they referred him to the Crisis Center’s Care Coordination services.

Paul and his significant other worked with Care Coordinator Amy to build a budget that worked with their new lifestyle. Amy also assisted Paul in signing up for food stamps and securing health insurance for the kids. With help from the Crisis Center to pay the remaining balance owed on Paul’s rent, he was caught up on his finances.

Equipped with their new budget and lifestyle plan, Paul and his family were back on firm financial ground so they could focus on continuing to heal from their traumas and move forward in their new life together.
