Principal's Message
September 28,  2018
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
It's beginning to look a lot like Fall Festival at OLQP. The halls are filling up with auction items donated by friends of OLQP. Long-time supporters are circling back around to purchase raffle tickets. Families are signing up to sell tickets and meeting family goals (and exceeding those goals in many cases!). Room parents along with teachers and helpers are creating amazing class projects made unique by the special touch of the students in the class. My mother used to say, "Many hands make light the work." It takes everyone working together to achieve the success enjoyed year after year in support of this beautiful school. The revenue generated is an important result. These funds enable the school to keep tuition more affordable - a difference of over $1,000 per student.
There is a less apparent result from all of these efforts. Families are working together. Lifetime friendships are being forged. Community is being celebrated. There are some things that can't be monetized. To what better purpose can everyone be brought together than this? We are on a mission from God. Working together to bring about the Kingdom of God by honoring Our Lord and Blessed Mother while forming the leaders (and saints) of tomorrow.
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

                Leaders in Training
At OLQP, students have many opportunities to develop as leaders. In lower elementary, students have jobs in their classroom and are challenged to contribute to a culture of mutual support and personal responsibility. In middle school, the opportunities increase to include: Student Council, National Jr. Honor Society, prayer leaders, mentors, Service Club, and in athletics.

Blessing of the Pets
On Wednesday, October 3, OLQP will host the second annual blessing of the pets, weather permitting. This custom is conducted in remembrance of Saint Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures.
Francis, whose feast day is October 4th, loved the larks flying about his hilltop town. He and his early brothers, staying in a small hovel, allowed themselves to be displaced by a donkey. St. Francis wrote a Canticle of the Creatures, an ode to God's living things. "All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures." Most of us have been blessed by the pets in our lives. Our good and gracious God planned it so. The Blessing of Pets usually goes like this:
"Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired Saint Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen."
