June   News

The calendar says Spring, but the temperatures in Florida say Summer! We reached the 100 degree mark in May! Definitely sewing time in the AC! So what's been happening in the sewing room?

FREE Pattern

This Mini Sewing Case makes an easy and relaxing summer project. With the heat on, how about a little Christmas in June? It could be a good time to stay indoors and start on little Christmas gifts for friends and relatives.

The pattern is also adaptable to a first aid kit or nail kit. Its small size fits conveniently in a purse or stitching bag.

Enjoy!
On the Design Wall

I've been drafting new blocks and projects for upcoming classes. My newly organized sewing room and once cleared cutting table are now covered with fabrics and threads and ribbons as I pull together the new designs.

I love this stage of the process, making decisions about techniques and fibers to bring the paper pattern to life! I'm trying new techniques and anticipating you will want  to try them too.

Although I'm not sharing pictures of the projects just yet, I'm hoping you will love them when they are revealed this summer!

Here is a picture of something I've been working on lately. After working on designs during the day, I've rewarded myself with a little crochet time in the evenings and be able to spend time with the hubby.

This is the first time I've crocheted with a lace weight yarn and I'm loving it! Sister Sandy gifted me the yummy baby silkpaca lace yarn and shawl pattern, and sister Jo gifted me with the hand carved rosewood yarn bowl . This is the first time working with a yarn bowl too, and now I don't know what I did without one!

The shawl will be a perfect summer shawl to drape over my shoulders when the air conditioning is a bit chilly.

Hope to share a picture of the finished shawl soon! Using lace weight yarn does take a little longer.

For Your Library

Do you like crazy quilts? Have you wanted to try stitching one, but are not sure were to begin when it comes to covering the seams with stitches?

I just received Kathy Seaman Shaw's new book, Stunning Stitches for crazy quilts , and this book is the answer to your conundrum!

Filled with 480 embroidered seam designs, Kathy even shows you how to make templates for perfect stitches every time. Buttons, beads, a touch of silk ribbon embroidery, along with delicate embroidery stitches make this a great reference book. It will spark your imagination to creating even more embroidered seam possibilities.

This is a good book to have on you library shelf!

Stitching Companions

"Hi Mom! I was looking for a nice place to take a nap. Do you think this will do?"

Sophia loves nesting on the latest quilt. This quilt is one of the four unfinished treasures I found while organizing my sewing room. It was the last one finally bound and is now gracing the queen size bed in the guest room.

The top was gifted to me by a special friend. I had it quilted and it only took me ??? years to get the binding sewn. Why did it take so long? I love it for many reasons! And apparently Sophia does too!
In Closing

The bumble bees and honey bees have filled our crepe myrtles. Did you know crepe myrtles have a very subtle fragrance? The bees seem to be enjoying the sweet pollen and smell, and I am enjoying their visit to our garden. I posted a video of them on our Facebook page if you'd like to see them happily at work. The bees and these flowers are sparking my creativity!

While outside with the pups last evening, I heard the cicadas singing their tune. This is a sure sign summer is here!

May your gardens, outside and the stitching kind, be filled with the beautiful signs of summer!

Until July,
Stay stitching,
