What's the Difference between the E-News and E-Chronicle?

The E-News comes out twice a month, usually the closest business day to the 1st and 16th. It contains announcements for upcoming events and other important information that needs to get out.

The E-Chronicle, on the other hand, has less urgency. It comes out every other month, and reports on events that have already taken place.  It may also feature special interest stories and reflections from folks around the Diocese.

We're here to help you spread the word about any events you have coming up (E-News), and also sharing the results with others in the Diocese (E-Chronicle). Send over your fliers, notices, photos and stories... you never know whose life you could impact or inspire!

For more information on submitting information for an upcoming event click HERE. To share photos and information on an event that has taken place, click HERE.

Convention XLV
2013 convention logo
The 45th Annual Meeting of Convention is coming up, October 25 & 26, 2013, at The Cathedral of St. Andrew.

The collection during the Convention Eucharist on Friday, and the "passing of the Miter" during the Annual Meeting on Saturday, are designated for "A Cup of Cold Water", the new Care Van ministry on Maui. The Bishop urges everyone attending to be "generous". (See the article below.)

The proposed resolutions are now posted on the convention webpage HERE.

VOLUNTEERS are still needed to assist with lunch services on both Friday and Saturday. If you are available to help on either day, please e-mail Katrina Luksovsky.
A Cup of Cold Water "Launches" Big Response
The following messages are from Bishop Bob Fitzpatrick regarding Maui's newest outreach ministry. The first was in a message to those attending the Annual Meeting, and the second was in response to an article in the Maui News about the soft launch and blessing of A Cup of Cold Water's first run from Trinity By-the-Sea on October 13:

Bishop Fitzpatrick
This ministry reflects the best in God's People engaging God's Mission.  It grew out of a need identified by the local community.  It has organized to include all the Episcopal Churches on Maui and is reaching out to others.

I couldn't be prouder of the Episcopal Church on Maui.  This is a witness, model and faithful challenge to the rest of the Diocese -- and to me.

+Bob
The Right Reverend Robert L. Fitzpatrick

Christmas at Camp for Middle Schoolers

December 27 - 29, 2013

Parents!  Not sure what to get your middle-schooler for Christmas this year?  Not sure what they like?  How about a weekend get-away on a beach with other middle-school youth, junk food, beach time and fun?  How could you go wrong with a gift like that?

Middle-schoolers!  Are you anxious about spending the whole Christmas break doing homework, eating leftovers, and not getting to see your friends?

Join other youth in The Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii for a new tradition, "Christmas at Camp", a middle-school only event during the actual Christmas season. Don't put away your decorations or holiday spirit yet, as we gather together for a powerful but fun-filled weekend at the lodge at Camp Mokule'ia. We will spend the weekend talking about our lives, about God, and about the struggles of being a middle-schooler in today's society.  We will worship together, explore our faith through art, and build a foundation for a strong relationship with each other and God.

Cost for this event is $50 for the entire weekend, and travel scholarships are available for Neighbor Island youth. More information will be coming out soon. If you have any questions, contact Sarah Klitzke, Diocesan Youth Director by e-mail, or call (808) 536-7776 ext 309.

He Lei, He Aloha - Legacies of Queen Lili'uokalani
Updated Schedule with Neighbor Islands
He Lei, He Aloha, this is a Lei of Love, celebrates the enduring legacies of Queen Lili'uokalani - her music, love of homeland and complete dedication to the people of Hawai'i. The Queen expressed her aloha through her actions and the examples she set.

Meleanna Aluli Meyer, artist, art-educator, filmmaker, and descendant of Emma Nawahi, confidante of Queen Lili'uokalani, will narrate this participatory program. This free 45-minute program includes community readings from the Queen's autobiography Hawai'i's Story by Hawai'i's Queen, a 7-minute vignette inspired by the Queen, and a sing-along of some of the Queen's music.

The Task Force for Re-imagining the Episcopal Church Invites Input through the Engagement Kit
[October 14, 2013] The Task Force for Re-Imagining the Episcopal Church (TREC) has posted its Engagement Kit and invites input and comments from Episcopalians. The Engagement Kit is located here: http://reimaginetec.org/

TREC member the Rev. Craig Loya explained, "This process is designed to continue to engage the church at all levels in an ongoing conversation about how we can re-imagine our structures, governance, and administration in a way that best responds to God's call at this moment in our common life, and helps most faithfully live into the church God is calling us to become in the future."  He continued, "The Engagement Kit is intended to be used by any local, diocesan, or church-wide gathering."

The Engagement Kit is downloadable as a PDF or PowerPoint and includes overviews, guidelines for engagement, facilitator's notes, charts, etc. There is also an opportunity for online engagement, which is a series of four questions.

As posted on the TREC website: "The members of the Taskforce want to hear the memories, hopes and dreams that people have for The Church. We are trying to reach as many people as we can over the next few months. We will use what we hear to help us shape recommendations for The Church's structure, administration and governance."

Data from the Engagement Kit will be used by TREC to help inform the Task Force's work.

Deadline for submitting information is March 14, 2014.

For more info, questions or comments, contact TREC members HERE
