Our District work and witness team has left to serve in Ecuador. Project funds have been sent and airline tickets have been purchased. This mighty team of 11 are planning, packing and preparing their hearts for this trip. Please keep them in prayer as they are preparing to leave. Pray for the family members they will be leaving behind to go on a trip like this, health needs and safety. Pray that our team will work as one cohesive group to share Gods love. Pray for endurance and the physical ability to accomplish the task and to return home safely.
Luke 6:38
Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Since September 1, 2009, the Church of the Nazarene's Global Ministry Center (GMC) proudly flies a flag each week of one of the many nations in which the denomination is present in ministry. Leaders were invited to send a national flag to be flown at the GMC alongside the flag of the United States. The national flags rotate weekly, and photos of them raised are sent to the church leaders of that country.
The Church of the Nazarene officially entered Ghana in 1990. The flag represented in this picture.
Ghana had a population of 28,102,471 in 2018. That same year, Ghana reported 116 Churches of the Nazarene, 32 of which had been officially organized. Ghana has 10,098 total members.
Located on the Africa Region, Ghana has three Phase 1 districts. For more information about the Africa Region, visit
africanazarene.org.
The weekly highlighted flag is raised on the middle of three poles in compliance with U.S. government protocols. It flies to the left of the GMC host-nation United States flag, which flies above the host-state flag of Kansas. The Christian flag flies on the third pole.
The Global Ministry Center is the mission and service hub of the Church of the Nazarene.
We have flags to rent from NWIL District Missionary Council. What a great way to share about one of the 162 countries missionaries are mobilized around the world. Contact Resource Secretary at

Sunday School Discipleship International

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
As you are going,
THINK BIG:
Every relationship, every interaction, all inclusive.
And make disciples,
START SMALL:
You. Be one. Be a Christ-like disciple. Re-present Jesus.
Baptizing them, immersing them in Jesus,
GO DEEP:
Pray. Empty yourself. Sacrifice.

For generations, Nazarenes have supported the World Evangelism Fund. Working together, we accomplish so much as the Body of Christ. Become a part of missions work and partner with the Church of the Nazarene to make Christlike disciples in the nations. In the Funding the Mission plan, the World Evangelism Fund is the vehicle through which we deliver the message of hope - and your church drives that mission.

Peoria Nazarene - Ecuador |
Peoria Nazarene Church organized a Work and Witness Trip to Quito, Ecuador from May 25 to June 2. The team consisted of 7 members of Peoria Nazarene, 5 members of New Beginnings Ministries of Peoria, and 1 member of Pekin First Nazarene. The team worked with local missionaries, Jon and Shirley Fischer, and a local Nazarene church to build a new church building. Together they were able to complete installation of the trusses, metal roof, and almost all of the cinder block walls. The team also participated in organizing a VBS for children. It was blessing to be able to serve with our brothers and sisters in Christ in Quito, Ecuador.

Southside Community Center |
T
aking the principle of collaboration from our strategic plan to another level, God has blessed Southside Community Center Director, Rev. Irene Lewis-Wimbley, her team, partner churches and several agencies. They have come to the table to strategically address issues of poverty in Peoria's Southside. Gospel Saturation requires a wholistic strategy to bring faith and action and services together and meet the needs of God's people and at Southside we do this work eating around a table. Coming to the table is the motif weaved into Dinner Church, Gospel Café, M.O.M.S Group. We are extremely blessed to bring Leadership and Enrichment and Summer Meals to the far west side of Southside through Summer Day Camp!! SCC teaches leadership principles of V.A.L.U.E.S., art and life skills together with Breakfast and Lunch. Southside is for the Community, but it is also for the church. Pastor Irene and Assistant Director Austin Smith have been working hard to multiply lay leaders by intentionally bringing, in the spirit of reconciliation, White Nazarene volunteers right alongside Black indigenous lay leaders. We are a hands-on learning laboratory to put our faith into practice equipping them all with Christian Community Development strategies and trauma informed engagement tools.
SCC was awarded a grant to bring on 3 VISTA Volunteers for the Summer, our own Carlee Smith, Marissa Smith and Anna McGovern as camp directors in an urban setting. At our Grand Opening Block Party on June 1, 2019 these ladies registered 87 kids and our first week we saw up to 39-60 kids each day. In one week, God more than doubled our expectations and outgrew our space. As part of our objective to teach life skills and address food insecurity issue we've partnered with the church across the street, Illinois Master Gardeners and local volunteers and a few homeschool families for our Urban Farm Project. The response to Day Camp has caused us to partner even further with Laramie Baptist Church to use their fellowship hall and classroom to accommodate the number of kids who want to be a part of Day Camp. God has blessed us to be able to hire a few of our indigenous volunteers through Senior Corps to be our VISTA Volunteer Foster Grandparents to head up the literacy portion of the day camp in our attempt to eliminate the summer learning loss that happens when kids aren't in school over the summer. God is blessing Southside Community Center in amazing ways and all we can do is pray and praise Him!
Pray with us Matthew 9, "Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore to send out workers into his harvest field" not only to help disciple the kids God is entrusting us, but also to come and learn and multiply lay leaders who want to do this work in the Southside in there community. If you are interested in the Evergreen Project Community Development Training or want to volunteer in any SCC programs, Sponsor a Dinner Church Meal or just want to taste and see that God is Good contact Pastor Irene or Pastor Austin at 309-713-3715 or email irenesouthsidecc@gmail.com or

Havana - Building Project |
The garage and storage facility has been completed on the new property of Havana Church of the Nazarene at 1170 E. Laurel Avenue. The building will be used to house the church bus, Living Nativity props, seasonal decorations, and various other materials and supplies.
Pastor Jim Buchanan reports: "This is just one small step in the grand scheme of all that is coming to our new property. However, it is a big step forward for us as we continue the transition to our six acre property on Route 136 on the east edge of town. The community is watching us and they too are excited to see something new happening in town."
The blueprints for the new building that is to be constructed at the Laurel Avenue location, have been completed. The worship space - in church circles called a "sanctunasium" - will be multipurpose in that it will be used not just for worship but as a gymnasium and a fellowship hall. The building will also house classrooms and office space.
Havana Nazarene launched a successful capital campaign in March 2019 and has garnered more than $160,000 in donations thus far. While the capital campaign continues Havana Nazarene is working with general contractor Zion Builders, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, to complete the bidding process with area subcontractors.
On Sunday night, June 9th, members and friends of the church gathered on the property to have a look at the completed garage. There was an NMI service, prayers and singing as the people gathered to thank God and dream about all that is coming to 1170 E. Laurel Avenue.

An Update from our Creative Access Missionary
|
Here's another note in which to share a few more stories of what is taking place here in my neck of the woods. I appreciate the support you give in so many ways and want to keep you well informed so you can continue lifting these precious ones to the Throne.
First, just a sweet note I got a few days ago from a student I had 2 years ago:
"I am Riley, from English literature class, and used to be in your listening class. Well, long time no see, and I'd like to write this letter to you due to a small thing that happened today. I wish this may not bother you. This afternoon I saw you without umbrella in the campus in a little heavy rain. But I just passed without greeting to you, and I am so sorry for that. At that time, I was rushing to attend a class, and left you alone and wet in the rain; that makes me feel guilty. I was supposed to walk along with you home with the umbrella, if you didn't mind it. I want to say that next time if it is raining and you are without umbrella, you can borrow one from the information desk in our library and the office in the teaching building 5. Of course, if you cannot get one, I can help you! I hope that you do not feel offensive with this thing. Have a good weekend!"
Isn't that sweet? Of course, I assured you she was no bother and I was touched by her concern. Seeing as how it was barely raining enough to be called a sprinkle, and I was just going across campus home, I assured her I was fine without an umbrella, and invited her to come to a movie sometime soon so we can talk again. Hope she comes.
I still have a strong concern for the 'outliers', those who've graduated and are out across the country for work, with little or no local support in their beliefs. I send them encouraging readings several times a week, and occasionally some of them write back. I also keep trying to help them connect with others of like-mind who can support them in their walk, like with Cathy and Grace, a local believer. Cathy wrote: "I've been doing video chat with Grace since last time I was in [the city]. We decided to have a small talk over The Book every day. She answers my questions and then we talk about our understanding, which makes The Book alive. It feels like those verses are guiding us in the real life. Some bothering trivialities are shared and rethought according to The Book. I feel much better then. We p... for each other in the end. HIS realm is just awesome!!"
And again, Cathy wrote: "
I was reading the letter [my note of encouragement]. That was the happiest moment of the day. It's been a tough day. I remember what you said about faith. HE has arranged everything with a purpose. We should trust HIM. I do and I will. Tears came down my face not just because of work stuff but HIS love and support. I know HE is there for me."
For students still here at university, many are still actively engaged in book clubs of various kinds and weekly movie nights and other activities. For Easter weekend, I held several special movie times and activities and 24 of us joined together for the special Sunday morning celebration. I'm just trusting that more good discussion and thinking will come out of those times together. Also, Jennifer, the teacher I referenced in the last letter, has joined the Sunday group these last 2 Sundays, which is an encouragement to both her and to me.
Two months left of the semester and I'm starting to feel the urgency of reaching these precious ones before we are apart, especially a number of the seniors with whom I have gotten very close. Most of them have been in Book groups and holiday celebrations over the years, so they have heard much of the Good News story. Still a ways to go, however, so as you think of us, remember especially Beverly, Elsa, Lotus, Alice, Carol, Lynn, and a few others.
You, too, are busy following His leading in your places, and along with this letter I send a 'lifted thought' that your work also will be productive and uplifting.

Church Multiplication Endowment Fund
|
Give a GIFT that doesn't stop Giving!
Would you give $1.00 a month if it never stopped giving, never wore out, never changed its usefulness or purpose and transformed lives?
How many times do we give a gift to someone only to see it discarded at a later date or discover it was never used as intended? Have you ever wanted to give a gift that would never grow old or wear out, that would always be used for good and made a difference for eternity? NOW you can!
Jesus said "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."
Would you partner with your Northwestern Illinois District's vision to plant churches? You might wonder how you can make a difference or even be a part. Everyone can. We need some to plant, we need everyone to pray and we need many to invest.
The Church Multiplication Endowment Fund is designed to reach unreached people living on the NWIL District for Christ. Every dollar given will continue to give in perpetuity. An endowment fund uses the interest from the principle to do kingdom work. Will you help fund this goal?
Currently, our district property funds have been invested in planting 22 new churches these past three years and the district is in need of capital to continue to plant more! We need your help. Presently, there are 36 more potential church plants in various stages of planning which will require additional funding support.
Help us reach our GOAL of planting 300 churches by 2030. We see 300 churches as 3,000 disciplemakers who disciple 15,000 disciples gathering with 30,000 worshippers. Every dollar you give will continue to reach people for Christ your whole lifetime and beyond.
Would you consider a GIFT of $1.00 a month? We are not trying to take money from your local ministry where you give your tithes and offerings. We are asking for many to give a little. Our initial goal is 5,000 giving at least $1.00 a month. Would you be one of those 5,000 making a commitment to create a movement to plant churches that change lives? Here are ways to give:
1. You can give to your local church by marking your check or cash gift "NWIL CM Endowment" and your church treasurer will take it from there.
2. You can also choose to give online if you want to set up one time or reoccurring payments using debit/credit/Electronic Check on the district website at nwilnaz.org/GIVE/ On District Church Planting or direct CM Endowment Giving LINK. Or scan this QR code at the bottom of this article.
3. You can send a check or cash to NWIL District, 3520 Broadway St., Pekin, IL 61554 (please indicate CM Endowment on check memo)
We are also looking for those who might like to make greater kingdom investments!
You can give cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, livestock, grain, or other personal property. Basically, any asset of marketable value can be used to help fund this endowment. There are also charitable gift annuity options that allow you to specify the endowment fund or another ministry of your choice while allowing you to receive income for your lifetime and when you pass, your gift goes to the endowment fund or specified ministry. CLICK HERE to see other ways to model generosity. Gifts can be given in memory or in honor of someone.
Large or small: Why not leave a lasting legacy that lasts more than your lifetime.
For more information or confidential consultation please contact NWIL District Administrator, Jim Book 309-678-2357; NWIL District Treasurer, Ray Barker
309-645-7716; or the Nazarene Foundation directly at 913-577-2983.
