Pixie Harbor Hoopla - Sunday, June 16
Magical Themed Festival of Enchantment in Bucksport
Calling all fairies, pirates, elves, wizards, hobbits and gnomes to Pixie Harbor Hoopla in Bucksport! Friends of all ages are invited to engineer a gnome home, pixie palace or fairy fort.

Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce presents Pixie Harbor Hoopla! This "magical" themed festival invites all ages to join us on the Bucksport waterfront for a day of enchantment on Sunday, June 16th from 11am to 4pm.

Dress in your finest Magical and Mystical Costumes or come as you are!

Attendees can visit Pixie Harbor Hoopla's “Gnome Depot,” a one-stop-shop (items are free) for bark, leaves, shells and other natural materials perfect for building fairy houses. Then display your creation for the day on the Bucksport Waterfront. It is said that fairy spirits reside among the trees, flowers, plants, and creatures that live in gardens. The act of building a fairy house is believed to bring good luck as well as help the plants and flowers to grow.

For more information contact the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce at 469.6818 if you’d like to be a vendor or have questions about the day!

Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory Opening Delayed
Good News: Fort Knox is NOW Open

Bad News:
The opening of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory will be delayed for several weeks. The observatory's fire suppression system needs to be fully operational before the Maine Department of Transportation can open the observatory to the public. A valve on that fire suppression system failed, so we have ordered a replacement, but the part needs to be specially constructed for us. We hope to be able to open the observatory by Memorial Day weekend.

IRS News
1. There’s no business like your business; IRS supports Small Business Week

For more than 50 years the Small Business Association’s National Small Business Week recognizes the important contributions of the nation’s many entrepreneurs.

The 2019 SBW runs May 5 – May 11. During the week the IRS will provide the latest updates and IRS.gov information of interest to small businesses through various channels. Key topics will include:

  • Withholding taxes,
  • Data security tips,
  • Estimated tax payments,
  • Business credits and deductions,
  • Depreciation and expensing, and
  • Tax implications of the sharing economy.
More information to come in next week’s special Small Business Week edition of the e-News for Small Business newsletter.

2. How the sharing economy might affect your business taxes

From renting spare rooms and vacation homes to car rides or using a bike … name a service and it’s probably available through the sharing economy.

Business owners and other taxpayers who participate in the sharing economy can find helpful resources in the IRS Sharing Economy Tax Center on IRS.gov. It helps taxpayers understand how this activity affects their taxes. It also gives these taxpayers information to help them meet their tax obligations.

3. Know how to report cash payments

Business owners often receive cash payments for goods or services. If, in a 12-month period, you receive more than $10,000 in cash from one buyer as a result of a transaction in your trade or business, you must report it to the IRS and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). You report it on Form 8300, Report of Cash Payments Over $10,000 Received in a Trade or Business.

For more information, see the recent IRS Tax Tip, Here’s what people should know about reporting cash payments.

Bucksport Regional Health Center Newsletter
May is High Blood Pressure Education Month.
This is an important awareness tool because high blood pressure has no warning signs but can be deadly. Read more about that on the back page. May is also a month of celebrations. The 6th to the 12th is National Nurses Week, a time to honor and acknowledge the work these dedicated health care professionals do each day. We have a number of nurses here at BRHC and we appreciate each and every one of them.

Also, the 20th anniversary of National Women's Health Week starts on Mother's Day, May 12th, and is celebrated through May 18th. This week is a time for all women to take
a look at their own health. Women tend to put everyone else first and sometimes their own needs are put on the back burner. So what steps can you take for better health? There
is a list of ways to improve your health to the right.
