What is the Brookside Legacy Endowment?
Members of the former Brookside United Methodist Church have provided opportunities to students that have decided to further their education with the support of their Legacy Endowment, established when the church closed in 2008. The scholarship fund was established with the United Methodist Foundation of Indiana to be distributed annually by Metro Ministries to qualified candidates for a scholarship to a post-secondary school.
Meet Our 2018 Scholarship Recipients
Britney Bailey is a 2018 graduate of Pike High School and an incoming freshman at Purdue University. She was referred to us through Outreach Inc., an east side organization whose mission is “Equipping and empowering homeless teens and young adults to achieve stability and life transformation.” Britney’s reaction to our scholarship announcement was, “ Wow, thank you all so much! This is such a blessing. I cannot express how thankful I am!”
Felicia Renteria is a sophomore at Indiana State University. This is Felicia’s second scholarship from the Brookside legacy. We met Felicia last year as an incoming freshman at Indiana State University. She is majoring in Psychology and her goal is to own her own business as a therapist or social worker. Felicia has followed up with Lisa Morris, Metro Ministries Executive Director, during the year as she completed her freshman year at Indiana State University, expressing how blessed she was to experience the love of our church family. In her recent email following the announcement she shared, “Thank you so much for the email and opportunity! I'm so thankful for you all!"
