A MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR |
A JEW LIVING IN OCEAN COUNTY
Last week a long-time friend of mine from North Jersey, who now lives in Manchester, took me on a tour of the Kosher markets and stores in the Lakewood/Toms River Area. Oh my goodness!!! Along Route 70 there is a plethora of places to purchase kosher and holiday items. I was like a baby in a candy store. I have traveled into Lakewood to shop but going down Route 9 takes forever and these stores can be found right off the GSP (Exit 89A). Our first stop was Bingo Wholesale, a huge store with everything you can think of. The produce looked very fresh and the store was bright and clean. I was able to stock up with some delicious pareve cakes for our onegs at the JCC. We stopped at some other places and finally ended our tour at the Trader Joe's which carries many kosher items (check their web site for list of kosher items).
Besides the shopping opportunities, it was a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by so many Jewish people.
It's kinda like the feeling I had in Israel. In fact, I made a new friend with a Orthodox mom and her two little ones who we kept on meeting on our tour.
A few weeks ago, I took a Saturday morning off from services to see my grandson participate in his first debate. I was happy to do that, but it felt rather strange. Going to services every Shabbat has set aside the day from all the other days of the week and I realized that I really missed this. I hope you will think of setting aside Shabbat from the other days of the week by having a Shabbat meal, lighting candles or coming to services at the JCC or at your winter synagogue.
We will be counting our blessings on Thanksgiving. I am thankful for our vibrant synagogue here on LBI, for our very special Rabbi and for the wonderful friends I have made through the synagogue.
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving....
