North Kawartha Council passed the following motion at the May 7, 2019 regular meeting of Council regarding jurisdiction of In Water Structures.
"That the Council of the Township of North Kawartha hereby adopts and affirms the following statement on the 7th day of May, 2019:
To comply with the endorsement of the Honourable Mr. Justice Perell, the Corporation of the Township of North Kawartha will assume jurisdiction over the Lands within the Township for the issuance of permits for in water structures pursuant to the provisions of the Ontario Building Code, 1992, as amended.
With respect to those Lands which form part of Ontario Parks (www.ontarioparks.ca) or Conservation Reserve as identified by Ontario Parks, the Township will assert no jurisdiction for such lands and therefore will not be issuing building permits for structures pursuant to the Building Code Act for in water structures.
Any work undertaken in the water will require a Shoreline Work Permit from Ontario Parks (Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park)
Further, the Parks Canada Act identifies waterbodies under the jurisdiction of Parks Canada (www.parkscanada.gc.ca). Trent Severn waterway is part of Park Canada and includes Stoney Lake. Therefore North Kawartha will not be issuing building permits pursuant to the Building Code Act for structures in those waterbodies under the jurisdiction of Parks Canada.
Any work undertaken in the water will require a Shoreline Work Permit from Parks Canada/Trent Severn Waterway.
All lakes not under the jurisdiction of Ontario Parks or Parks Canada will be subject to Comprehensive Zoning By-law # 2016-061 for the Corporation of the Township of North Kawartha.

Canada Day Parade and Firework Celebrations
On July 1st each year, the Apsley and District Lions Club hosts the Canada Day Parade and Celebrations. The Parade starts at 3:00 pm at the Apsley Public School, continues along Burleigh Street to Wellington, then along Jack Lake Road to McFadden Road, ending at the Lions Park where the festivities continue until 6:00 pm. A Bouncy Castle, games, and the Lions food booth are just a few of the things that make this day great. Starting at dusk, the fireworks show begins. Come on out and celebrate Canada!

table of touring comedians. This is an age of majority event and there will be food available. The show takes place at the NKCC and proceeds benefit the North Kawartha Figure Skating Club. Doors open, refreshments and meals available at 6:30 pm. The first of three comedians takes to the stage at 8 pm. Tickets available now at the NKCC

Here's a helpful hint about using the Township website. Let's say you're wondering what time the Transfer Stations are open.
On the Township website home page, go to the Our Community bucket (at the top of the page) and scroll to Community Calendar. If you click on any of the events listed (such as Anstruther Transfer Station), for the specific date you are interested in (or any date), it will bring up more information such as: a Google map of where the event is located, upcoming dates (if any), posters (if applicable), clickable links to: the relevant webpage, our Facebook page our Twitter page, and our YouTube channel.

The Apsley Autumn Studio Tour is renowned for the quality of the artists working in a variety of disciplines. Located in the North Kawarthas, many of the studios are tucked away in beautiful, scenic locations where our local artists and guests present new and exciting works created specifically for this annual event.
From the molten heat of the glass furnaces to the cool, smooth feel of carved stone and all points in between, our self-guided tour is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artists in person.
This year's tour includes 12 studio locations presenting 24 artists and artisans whose work encompasses a wide spectrum within the disciplines of painting, jewellery, glass art, sculpture, fabric art, pottery, felting and metalwork.
Immerse yourself in a weekend of interesting and engaging art set against a backdrop of beautiful fall colour. Come for a day or for the weekend; stay in local accommodations and enjoy a leisurely tour of our countryside and a warm welcome at our studios.
The annual tour takes place Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22, 2019.

The 2019 budget was passed on February 19, 2019. It includes a 2.1% increase dollar to dollar over the 2018 budget. The municipal tax rate will decrease by 1.7% (municipal tax rate X residential assessment = municipal portion of taxes). Work on rehabilitating Chandos Beach is almost complete. Improvements were made to restore the beach area that has been lost over the years, improve and create a parking area, and safer areas for children to play. Numerous trees have been planted that will provide summer shade and fall colours for years to come. Chandos is not our only beach; you can find out more by clicking on

NKCC Fitness Centre and Wilson Park

At the NKCC our fully-equipped Fitness Centre is open weekdays 6 am to 9 pm, weekends and holidays 9 am to 5 pm. Membership packages are available and include daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual rates.
Core and Spin Fitness classes are also available. Complete information can be found by clicking Fitness Centre.
Wilson Park is located at 66 Northey's Bay Road in Woodview. There are many
amenities
available for use. There are Tennis and Pickleball Courts, Playground Equipment, Baseball Diamond, Beach Volleyball Court and a Basketball court.
The Tennis/Pickleball courts at Wilson Park will be completely repaired and resurfaced this season.

Burn permits are required for all open air burning in the Municipality of North Kawartha. This includes campfires of any size and brush burning.
If you are unable to complete the Burn Permit Online you must attend an issuing location to complete a burn permit in person.
You can visit one of the following locations during operating hours to obtain a burn permit in person:
* Woodview General Store, 6220 Highway 28, Woodview
* Anstruther Marina, 23 Fire Route 63, Anstruther Lake
* Municipal Office, 280 Burleigh Street, Apsley

Both Transfer Stations sites are on Summer hours until September 15th , and are open Canada Day, Labour Day and Holiday Day Mondays with Sunday hours.
Also, Curbside Garbage and Recycling Collection runs as normal on Holiday Mondays.

A reminder that you may use your 2019/2020 Cream coloured waste pass
at the Transfer Station to access your 20 bag tags prior to their expiry or bring your waste pass to the Municipal Office to redeem your bag tags.
