All School Book Read
UPDATE: Middle School Book Club
We are so excited about the interest in the book "Flying Lessons and other stories". Please remember to get a book from the SLP public library; many are reserved there for us. Per the librarian at the SLP Public Library: "The books are now being held behind the desk. Thus they can simply ask for the book at the front desk. This may help with ease of picking it up." Or, get one from the Middle School library. If students are not able to get a copy on their own, please direct them to the Google form to sign up to get one. Through Donor's Choose, SLP Middle School was honored to receive 100 copies for students. Here's the link for those who need a book: Google form - Need a Book? (kids can also access this link through Schoology and on the LMC website)

Now that we're reading, let's talk about it! Students are invited to come to book conversations

Who: ALL humans on the Middle School campus
What: Read and discuss short stories that celebrate the uniqueness in us all
When: Nov. 30th (the 1st short story in the book) and Dec. 14th during all 4 lunches. More conversations to come after winter break.
Where: MS Library classrooms 1-2
Why: We lean in to learning about other cultures and perspectives
How: Read short stories from diverse, award-winning authors, and talk about it with other humans. Bring your lunch!

Clothing Drive
Dear Middle School Families,
The health office is in need of extra clothing! We are specifically looking for clean sweat pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks and underwear in an assortment of sizes. The biggest need is for items that will will fit our 7th and 8th grade students. Also needed are athletic shoes.

If you have any of these items that your child has outgrown and/or no longer uses, please bring them to the health office.

With much appreciation,
SLPMS health aide

Contribute To This Year's Yearbook
St. Louis Park Middle School has new advisers for the 2018-19 yearbook.  We, Maria Johnson and Lisa Becker, are excited about the opportunity to help gather memories for your students, but we would love to have your help!
The best yearbooks are filled with many photos of a variety of events and students; learning, performing, competing and having fun. We have an easy way for you to share photos of our Middle Schools students in their co-curricular activities, so that we have many to choose from.
Our yearbook company, Josten’s, has created RePlayIt, a free app to share photos with us. You can find it in the App Store or in Google Play Store to download to your mobile phone. We gave it a try and it works great!  All we did was download the app, registered with St. Louis Park Middle School and took some photos to share. Thank you for helping capturing the moments of our students’ year!
Fall Play Parent Meeting
There will be an adult meeting for all those who have students in the play on Monday, November 26 at 6:15 p.m. in the choir room (124) at the middle school. At this meeting, we will discuss very important week of the show details and explain all of the late night and weekend rehearsals. This is also a great time to pay your play fee if you haven't already. We'll also talk about the volunteer opportunities and other ways you can help us and the students have a successful fall play!

Contact Ms. Zumberge or Ms. Edelheit if you have questions about the adult meeting. Thanks so much.

St. Louis Park Strong
Randy Zutz (Middle School Bus Supervisor) and I met with the Park/Adams Bus Drivers this week. We brought over bagels and cream cheese to thank and celebrate their efforts to drive 10 tons of bus, 30-50 students safely through the streets of St. Louis Park each and every day.

Pictured is the owner of the company celebrating drivers who have been with the company over 10-20+ years. Together the drivers have over 200 years of experience driving our students to and from sporting events and field trips as well as to and from our homes to school.

To our drivers: Thank you for your efforts!

DonorsChoose
Did you know that there is a way you can help teachers in our building make cool things happen? You can directly impact the materials and resources our kids have with your social media help or your financial donations. Ask your kids if they like using the Hokki stools in the school, or the standing desks, or the various games found in different OT classes. Most of those items have come from teachers writing grant requests on DonorsChoose. This site allows teachers to write a request for items they have on their wish lists for their classrooms. Things that the teachers think will help your kids. Please check out the various projects our teachers have posted and think about donating or sharing on your social media accounts! We have teachers looking for basketball jerseys, for books for the whole-school reading project, for fitness bands to teach international connections, so many ideas! Our school has funded 63 ideas so far, help us keep it going!

Sports
Softball
There will be a meeting on Tuesday, November 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium for any 7th or 8th grade girl interested in trying out for the high school softball team. Contact Sophia Olmen if you have any questions.

Girls' Basketball
The A team lost to Plymouth after a close comeback with offense form Bella Miller, Abby Stadler and Dezi Meringdol and aggressive defense from Camille Beyah and Jaida Puentes. The B team defeated Plymouth with a huge lead thanks to scoring from Ruwayda Shaikh, Ellie Minnick and Ingrid Sackey. Nice work ladies.
