Principal Note:
Dear parents and guardians:
It was another great week for our students and staff. This week we had over 100 students take ACCESS testing which measures their language skills in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Thanks to the efforts of our teachers, we were able to get all of our kids tested.
Another highlight of the week was my meeting with the Student Voice Committee. We have over 25 students that are working in committees which include lunch, celebrations, advisory lessons, LiveSchool. They have so many great ideas that we look forward to implementing in the school.
Remember, no school on Monday. We hope you all enjoy a safe weekend and Dr. Martin Luther King jr. holiday.

Fue otra gran semana para nuestros estudiantes y personal. Esta semana tuvimos más de 100 estudiantes que tomaron la prueba ACCESS, que mide sus habilidades lingüísticas en lectura, escritura, comprensión auditiva y expresión oral. Gracias al esfuerzo de nuestros maestros, pudimos hacer que todos nuestros niños fueran evaluados.
Otro punto destacado de la semana fue mi reunión con el Comité de Voz de los Estudiantes. Tenemos más de 25 estudiantes que trabajan en comités que incluyen almuerzos, celebraciones, lecciones de asesoramiento, LiveSchool. Tienen tantas ideas geniales que esperamos implementar en la escuela.
Recuerda, no hay clases el lunes. Esperamos que todos disfruten de un fin de semana seguro y Dr. Martin Luther King jr. fiesta.

Student Voice Committee -

The student voice committee meets every month and are providing us feedback for lunches, advisories, celebrations and LiveSchool. If your child is a member, please talk to them about what we are committed to do for the school.

Summer Construction
Did you know? Thanks to our tax-payers, GBMS is getting a make-over! This summer we are getting our offices renovated, some new classrooms, new flooring, redesigned cafeteria, gym floors and the grounds. We will keep you posted on what it will look like for our students next year.

COLORADO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA FIELD TRIP
On Wednesday, January 15th almost sixty band and orchestra students attended a Colorado Symphony Orchestra youth concert, Beethoven’s Birthday Party! We are so grateful for Ms. Gilmore, our fearless music instructor, for creating these opportunities for our students.

NNAT Test Scores
Attention Parents of 6th Graders! The
NNAT test scores are now available to parents/guardians of 6th grade students. For a copy of your student’s NNAT score report, please contact the GT rep, Ms. Janet Draper, at
ms.draper@denverbeaconschools.org
or 720-424-9496 (voice to email message). Reports can be provided in English and Spanish. Information about scores can be provided in several numerous languages.

Enrichments
This year, we are partnering with the City of Denver to become the 11th Middle School in DPS to have composting in our lunchroom. Our first day with compost bins in the building will be January 21st. Students who have chosen to be in the Green Griffins enrichment will be overseeing the program. It will be a great opportunity for our school to help contribute to a greener. cleaner Denver, while teaching our kids valuable environmental strategies and leadership skills. Thank you to Mr. Horowitz for providing this enrichment opportunity to our students!

Staff Member of the Week
Ms. MaryClaire Fey joined the Beacon Network at Grant Beacon through the Goodwill Program and this year has moved into the role of the 6th grade dean. She works very closely with the 6th grade team to support both teachers and students, often sitting in the classroom with students that may need some extra support. Currently, she also works with our student ambassadors during our feeder elementary school visits and is diligently going out to visit schools and recruiting students with a smile on her face. Ms. Fey gives our students the extra love and care they need to succeed and thrive in school.

La Sra. MaryClaire Fey se unió a la Red Beacon en Grant Beacon a través del Programa de Buena Voluntad y este año pasó a ser el decano de 6to grado. Sports
Both the Boys and Girls Basketball teams have started their seasons with a 4-0 record. On Tuesday, 1/14, they defeated Kepner. They look to continue their winning ways on Friday when they face off against Grant Ranch.

Floor Hockey tryouts were held last week. All students who participated in the tryout made the team. Grant will have two Floor Hockey Teams. Games begin in mid-February.

On the evening of Friday, Jan. 10th teachers and staff from Grant Beacon and Kepner Beacon came together and took in a DU Hockey Game! Go Pioneers!
