SMALL CHURCH VITALITY PROJECT
The Milwaukee Presbytery 2019 Small Church Vitality Project is encouraging participants.  Letters and emails were sent to clerks of session and pastors for all our congregations at 125 members or less with an invitation to participate.  If you are a member of one of these congregations, please check with your pastor and/or session to ask if your congregation is participating.  And if not, please encourage that you do!  This project is tailored to the particular challenges our small congregations face in being the church today.  How can smaller churches not only be viable but also vital in their discipleship without losing the unique strengths and characteristics that draw us in to more intimate congregational settings?
2019 PRESBYTERIAN YOUTH TRIENNIUM- JUNE 16-20
GET TO KNOW OUR PASTORS
WH O WAS THIS?
"I count myself as a personal friend of Punxsutawney Phil, 'seer of seers, the prognosticator of prognosticators, the one true weather predicting groundhog.' I have attended Groundhog's Day at Gobbler's Knob five times, given Phil scratches countless times, and even had Phil join in a worship service when Groundhog Day fell on a Sunday."
Last week's mystery pastor is Brett Swanson, Co-Pastor at Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church.
"I was fortunate enough to serve as the Pastor to the wonderful Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney for six Phil-tastic years! Many members of Punxsutawney Phil's Inner Circle (aka. the guys in black top hats) were good friends, neighbors, and members of the church. Groundhog Day will fall on a Saturday in 2019, the best and biggest day for crowds and merriment, and I encourage all of you to make the trek out to Gobbler's Knob for the prognostication. The knob, as it is called, opens at 3:00 a.m. with music, community demonstrations from groups like the ballet school, and non-stop Groundhog themed entertainment. An epic fireworks show kicks off around 6:00 a.m., and then comes the reason we're all freezing: Phil is awoken from his burrow with three raps from the special cane carried by the Inner Circle President. It is that cane that gives the holder the ability to speak Groundhogese; the native tongue of Weather Predicting Groundhogs. Around 7:00 a.m the prediction is made, and about 7:05 a.m. people make a bee-line back to the busses that will return them to downtown. One day each year Punxsutawney is among the most well-known and celebrated spots on earth!"

Heatherlee Muehlius guessed correctly and will receive a free meal at the next presbytery gathering! And to the others who guessed correctly, and incorrectly, thanks for playing!
******************************************************************************
WHO IS THIS?
"This pastor is also a girl scout troop leader."

Send your guess to  Chris Halverson  and the first person to guess correctly will be recognized next week and receive a free dinner at the next presbytery meeting!

GA AMENDMENTS
As we prepare to vote on Book of Order amendments at an upcoming Presbytery meeting, Fresh Impressions will give you a preview of the proposed changes.

Proposed amendment 18-G suggests the following addition (shown in italics) to D-2.0203b:
"b. An offense is any act or omission by a member or a person in an ordered ministry of the church that is contrary to the Scriptures or the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Sexual abuse as defined in Section D-10.0401c shall be considered contrary to the Scriptures or Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and therefore an offense for purposes of these rules." This overture was brought to close a perceived gap in whether sexual misconduct fell under the jurisdiction of the Rules of Discipline. The full text and commentary can be found here

Proposed amendment 18-H has two parts, both dealing with the time limit for when sexual misconduct claims may be brought. The first is 18-H.1 which eliminates the time limit for claims against persons who should have known of the reasonable risk of sexual abuse of another or failed to take reasonable steps to minimize the risk. Without the amendment, the language only applies to the sexual abuser. In 18-H.2., the amendment to D-10.0401c(1) clarifies that consent cannot be given by any person under the age of eighteen years or anyone without the mental capacity to consent. BOOK STUDY - CO-MODERATORS CHANGE SELECTION
Our two General Assembly co-moderators have issued this statement:
It has recently come to our attention that the author of the book we chose for the "One Church, One Book" initiative has resigned from his position amid allegations of creating a hostile and abusive work environment. We followed up on the story, and according to unverified information available to the public online, there are allegations that this apparent pattern of bad behavior has been present for over twelve years and has also been ignored or enabled by the board.

For this reason, we will no longer be recommending...(READ MORE)
