Celebrating 100 years of Anthroposophy

In December 2023, the moment when Rudolf Steiner placed the Anthroposophical foundation stone of love into the hearts of society members, will have its one hundred year reflection.

This momentous event marks, among many things, the point in time where Anthroposophia, a spiritual being, no longer streamed into the world through Steiner's heart alone but streamed through the hearts of the members of the Anthroposophical Society.

The lasting significance of the Christmas Conference of 1923, is that the expression and achievements that are Anthroposophy, continue to flow from individuals, and constellations of individuals, who cultivate a relationship with the being of Anthroposophia through their hearts.

In recognition of the expression of Anthroposophia in individuals and communities, Council is asking Society members to indicate their level of interest to begin creating a 100 years of Anthroposophy celebration for 2023.

One possibility is to have the content of the celebration be a collection of presentations about personal and shared Anthroposophical experiences. This could include all manner of presentation: artistic, research, a life's work, and projects inspired for the purpose of celebrating Anthroposophy.

Your feedback is encouraged and welcome. Please get in touch with your local council member or the General Secretary.

Sincerely,

Dorothy LeBaron, John Glanzer, Micah Edelstein, Arie Van Ameringen.

THIS WAR IS NOT INEVITABLE

A play for two actors  written by Michael Hedley Burton
and performed by Lightweight Theatre.
An interview with Susan Koppersmith
Michael Burton

TOURING THE U.S. AND CANADA FROM FEBRUARY - APRIL 2018

Michael Burton, could you say a little bit about your play?

I wrote this play in January 2017 in New Zealand, where I live. It is a 90-minute piece of theatre that has been performed 35 times in various countries.

It is based on real events that took place during the First World War when a certain young man, in despair about the death and destruction happening around him, approached Rudolf Steiner who "seemed to have the answer to everything". In reply to the young man's inner turmoil, Steiner explained to him an idea of a society which could have ended WWI earlier, saving millions of lives, and done away with the reasons for WWII.
Christian Peterson

This idea of Steiner's is what we now call the Threefold Social Order, though I personally prefer to use the term Threefold Social Organism.

It is based on the independence of society ' s economic, political and cultural institutions. It aims to foster human rights and equality in political life, freedom in cultural life (art, science, religion, education, the media), and cooperation in economic life. It is a blueprint for a way of living in which war between nations would become almost impossible.

I felt from the very beginning that this play needed to go to North America. In America today there are great social divides and powers that prey on exploiting the differences between people. Social Threefolding, by bringing about a synthesis of the best of capitalism and the best of socialism, offers new solutions to thinking about how we can best live together as a society.

Why do you prefer to use the term Threefold Social Organism rather than Threefold Social Order?

To me, organism seems more alive than " order " which sounds a bit too static. A threefold community is .........Read on

Travelling on foot from the village of my birth to the Goetheanum - Michel Dongois

INTRO
By travelling alone on foot, a pilgrimage I have named Via Michaelis, from my birthplace, Culmont, in the Champagne region of France, to the Goetheanum, I made a dream come true - the dream of honouring my long-standing connection with anthroposophy.

TEXT
I arrived in Dornach with my backpack on September 29, after three weeks on the road, which included twelve days on foot through five French "départements" and three Swiss cantons. The distance separating the village of my birth from Dornach is approximately 200 kilometres. Since I was determined to avoid all main thoroughfares, I had traced out my own personal route of nearly 250 kilometres through villages and secondary departmental roads. I was, however, never far from national Route 19, which is the usual highway one takes to travel from Paris to Switzerland, nor far from the Paris-Basel railroad line. As a child, I would often dream of travelling these routes pointing eastward, the direction my aspirations seemed to want to lead me.

Rudolf Steiner stated that the Goetheanum was to be "a symbol for what must be accomplished in order to elevate mankind" (Social Impulses in the Light of Spiritual Science). A true crossroads, a place of blending, integration, harmonization. So, eastward bound was I! With, as my ultimate goal, the Statue of the Representative of Humanity!  ...........Read on

Auriel Eurythmy

A part-time eurythmy training currently based in Alberta. We began with a group of 7 students in 2013 and have worked steadily in 8 - 12 day modules, 3 times each year, with that group. There are now only 4 students left to go into their final graduation year, but we have begun a new group this Fall. Our new group is made up of 3 groups of students, one is based in Canada (a group of 4 again), one in Mexico City (10 students) and one group in Playa del Carmen (7 students). They will all work together once a year for the Spring Module. The teachers travel from place to place to work with the 4 different groups: The 5th year graduating group as well as the 3 new 1st year groups. Auriel does not have its own home and has been hosted by the Calgary, Edmonton and Nelson Waldorf Schools. Auriel is part of a non-profit society called the Kootenay Society for Lifelong Learning, based in Nelson BC.

In January 2018 we attended a meeting at the Goetheanum for eurythmy trainers led by Stefan Hasler and are in the process of becoming a recognized eurythmy training and being welcomed into the circle of the Section for Performing Arts, which is very exciting for us.

Migration - A Grail Journey of Our Time
During the twelve Holy Nights, December 25th - January 6th, Regine Kurek's art show Migration - A Grail Journey of Our Time was displayed in the Community Room at Hesperus Fellowship Village.

"I would like to share with you a series of paintings that have arisen out of being touched by the current Refugee Crisis and the notion that we don't feel comfortable with the un-familiar, such as 'foreigners'. It really hit home for me when this 'migration' arrived in Canada this past year and I saw photographs of men, women and children crossing the plains of ice and snow across the 49th parallel into Canada. Being an immigrant myself, the notion of being or not being welcome in the country of choice for whatever the reason, was deeply disturbing. Also, it touched a deep cord in me to read that currently over 65 Million people are seeking refuge and that 10 years ago there were three and now there are 11 walls in the world hindering people from crossing borders and keeping people out of 'my country'! This phenomenon to leave home in search of a better future, may be even death, is deeply disturbing and yet points to such courage and trust in one's destiny! Everything is in movement across the world, can we embrace this shift and meet the uncertainty in the present time with 'absolute equanimity' and creativity? The question of 'what can I do as an artist' has moved me from hope to despair and back to HOPE:
At the moment my HOPE is that being a witness in this form, moves some HEARTS."

Regine Kurek.

The new program aims to provide foundational work in contextual, holistic science - what we often call Goethean science. It offers the challenge and the opportunity to move beyond the static, object-like abstractions of contemporary thought toward a fluid, transformative way of perceiving and thinking.

Please pass the word on about the program to anyone you think may be interested.

In Search of the Future -
A Tour of Discovery in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria

July 28 to August 20, 2018

Anthroposophy was planted in these Eastern European countries early in the last century. Communism kept it underground prompting it to grow strong roots. At the end of that era, it grew strong and rm above ground and blossomed with joy that it could now be free.We have known none of that in the West.
We will carry the awareness that the Slavs will lead the way in heart- thinking consciousness in the future. On this tour we will explore what has been happening anthroposophically in Eastern Europe in the last 25 years and, in Bulgaria, meet some of those on a similar yet different spiritual path acknowledged by Rudolf Steiner.
