Prayer for the Care of Children

Almighty God, heavenly Father, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children: Give us calm strength and patient wisdom as we bring them up, that we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good, following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ.  Amen ( BCP #46, p. 829)
CSMSG GRANDPARENTS OF PARENT LINK

The Grandparents of Parent Link met on Sunday, November 18, to say our prayers and share our stories. One Grandmother who attended Mr. Rogers Movie Night (see below) recounted how in the darkened Great Hall she had written down some of the most moving things Mr. Rogers said, so that she could say them to her grandchildren when she sees them at Christmas. Her favorite, the one she will say first, “I like you just the way you are.” Another Grandmother told of a family tradition followed for years in which her daughters have her grandchildren craft homemade greeting cards for Grandmother. She displayed four charming examples. She preserves them in portfolios as family heirlooms, believing that her grandchildren will one day cherish these mementos of relationships of loving kindness.

The Grandparents of Parent Link will meet again on Sunday, January 20, from 8:15 to 9:05am in the Wydown Meeting Room.  All are welcome, including non-grandparents who serve like grandparents in nurturing the spiritual lives of children. For more information about his group, please contact Bruce Springer, Barb Smith, Tim Smith, or Pam Koprowski.
Mr. Rogers Documentary Movie Night

Thirty-four souls braved the predicted snow showers to attend Movie Night in the Great Hall on Friday, November 9, featuring the 2018 Mr. Rogers documentary, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?   Tears were shed as the movie explored the ways that Mr. Rogers modeled unconditional love for children (and all his neighbors) during a professional life that seems like an unceasing prayer. The authentic movie-house popcorn was also a hit.

All attendees received a handsome Mr. Rogers card with “ Seven Lessons from Mister Rogers That Can Help Americans Be Neighbors Again ”. The card is based on the article of the same name by Shea Tuttle, which appeared in Greater Good Magazine (July 13, 2018) and is linked here:

Cards are still available at Church through Marty Chapman.
