Strong Start
TCS Strong Start for the First Week

The teachers and staff of TCS have been working hard to provide a solid remote learning platform for all students. The first days of school will focus on Social Emotional Learning, the tools for remote learning (laptops, Teams, Schoology), culturally responsive racial and equity instruction, and building strong school/family/community partnerships. During this first week, staff will provide a diversity of enrichment supplemental activities for students by checking in on their social emotional well-being experiences and their school readiness needs, along with providing training on the online platforms of Teams and Schoology in preparation for a strong instructional learning engagement.

September 14 is when the full instructional schedules (core academic instruction) will be implemented and followed.

SPS Technology Request | Restart Your SPS Laptop

The 1st Day of School had some technology challenges due to the high traffic and increase of users on our SPS network.
In order to correct the connectivity issues, you will need to help your student restart their district-provided device this weekend.
Please follow these steps
  1. Plug your device into power
  2. Turn it on
  3. Connect to the internet
  4. Restart it and have your student log in
  5. Leave it on for an hour or two to receive new software updates before logging off
It would be ideal if you could do this at least once or twice before Tuesday, Sept 8 to be sure you get all the Windows updates as well. Also, please start it up and log in as early as possible before school starts on Tuesday.

In general, we recommend restarting your device at least once a week.

Email and Teams for Students

To better support remote learning, the district is enabling student email accounts and the online meeting tool Microsoft Teams. These changes will help improve communications, user experience, and security for students and teachers.

Student Safety and Security
The student email and Microsoft Teams accounts are essential to help the district to provide safe and secure tools for our students.

Students will only be able to send and receive email messages to people with Seattle Public Schools email address, such as teachers and other students. Seattle Public Schools (SPS) email addresses end with "@seattleschools.org."

Students will not be able to send nor receive email from non-SPS email addresses, such as Gmail. For parents worried about cyberbullying and similar risks, please read more about cyber bullying and online safety.

Steps to Access Student Email

How students log in to their SPS Office 365 account to access email and other Office tools:
  1. Go to the Office 365 login page
On the district and school websites, there are several short cuts for Office 365: click the large blue icon called "Student/Families Portals" and the dropdown Student menu click "Office 365"

SPS devices have an icon for email on the desktop

  2. Login with your SPS Student Username (ex: 1jrsmith@seattleschools.org) and Password

  3. If accessing through the Office 365 site, click Outlook icon
Steps to Reset Student Passwords
Check the student username and password webpage for the steps to reset student passwords.

2020-21 Student Data Verification Form on The Source
online form
The student data verification form, sent out at the start of each school year, will be available in September online through the Source. will be available September 4 through September 30, 2020. The student data verification form gives parents and guardians the opportunity to update emergency and medical information for their student.

The online form replaces the paper form sent home at the beginning of each school year and offers a secure and green alternative to the paper-based process.

Parent and Guardian Process to Complete the Form
Families are encouraged to complete this form to ensure Seattle Public Schools has current student information including emergency contact information.
To fill out your student's data verification form please sign into the Source and click Data Verification Form.
  • The system allows for only one data verification form to be submitted per student. If another legal guardian has initiated filling out the data verification form, you will receive an error indicating that the form is associated with another account.
  • If you have multiple students at the district, you will fill out a data verification form for each student.
