Town Creek Culvert Update: January 2020
GREENVILLE, N.C. - With the calendar flipped to 2020, the City of Greenville would like to provide the public with an update on the progress of the Town Creek Culvert project.

WHERE WE'VE BEEN
Work was completed at the intersection of West Eighth Street and South Washington Street, and that area was reopened to traffic in October.

A reinforced box culvert (RCBC) has been installed from Town Common along Reade Circle to the east side of the intersection of Evans Street and Reade Circle, and water main installation has been completed along Reade Circle up to the Federal Bankruptcy Courthouse.

Work on the pedestrian crosswalk located mid-block on Reade Circle between Cotanche Street and East Fifth Street has been completed. The contractor is currently opening the crosswalk ONLY  during non-working hours to allow access from East Carolina University's West End Dining Hall to the Uptown district.

WHERE WE ARE
PVC piping is currently being placed within the intersection of Reade Circle and Cotanche Street to allow for smart grid and traffic signal installation.

Curb and gutter work is ongoing along Reade Circle from East Fifth Street to Cotanche Street, as well as preparation for the installation of brick crosswalk pavers on each side of the intersection of Cotanche Street and Reade Circle.

Road/Sidewalk Closures:  Reade Circle  between Cotanche Street  and East Fifth Street remains closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic .
Parking Impacts:  On-street parking spaces on Reade Circle between Cotanche Street and East Fifth Street are inaccessible. The middle portion of the paved parking lot at Town Common remains closed. Access to the greenway from the parking area is via East First Street.
Public Transportation Impacts:  Greenville Area Transit (GREAT) Route 5 is not picking up from Cotanche Street south of East Eighth Street.

WHERE WE'RE GOING
Weather permitting, Reade Circle will reopen to traffic from East Fifth Street to its intersection with Cotanche Street following paving and striping in February. At that time, the project will shift west, and the intersection of Reade Circle and Evans Street is scheduled to close in late February.

Prior to the closure of the intersection of Reade Circle and Evans Street, a public meeting will be held to update business owners on the current status, detours, and future schedule of the project.

The City of Greenville appreciates the patience of its residents and business owners during this vital project. Another update will be forthcoming in the near future. For more information on the Town Creek Culvert, visit tcc.greenvillenc.gov.
