K-5 Lunch Visitor Announcements
|
We love having parents visit for lunch. However, we would like for you to be mindful of the following should you visit:
1 - If you come to eat lunch with your child please remember that other students are not allowed to join you and your child at the back table. We don’t have permission from the other student’s parent for them to sit with another adult. This policy applies to cousins, neighbors, etc.
2 - Also, we respectfully ask you to please limit your visits to once a week. This allows your child the opportunity to practice their social skills and enjoy friendly conversation during lunch.
If you have any questions please feel free to speak with Ms. Baker.

See Something, Say Something
|
On Friday afternoon, middle school scholars will meet with representatives from NCDPI and watch a video about the mandatory "Say Something" anonymous reporting system that Executive Director of NC Center for Safer Schools, Mr. Trumbo, has been vocal about in NC schools.
The video teaches students to:
- recognize the signs and signals of at-risk behaviors – especially within social media.
- take every sign and signal seriously.
- act quickly to get help by talking to a trusted adult OR report anonymously through SS-ARS 24/7 Crisis Center, mobile app, or website.
Scholars will come home with more information on Friday. Please contact Mr. Newberry if you have questions.

7:45am when STAFF is lining the DROP-OFF ZONES is when it is SAFE to have your children get out of the car. Do not tell your children to get out of the car and stand in front of the buildings before staff arrives for morning carpool duty, as this poses an unsafe situation for our scholars without proper supervision.
Stop ONCE and EVERYONE gets out of the car! ALL STUDENTS EXIT at ONE stop, and they can walk to the appropriate building.
When you stop in front of the middle school to drop off, and then stop in front of the 3-4 building, and then stop in front of the gym building, you cause a back up and the "inchworm" traffic that not only slows our carpool tremendously but gives drivers much frustration. Once your car is in front of ANY of the buildings is when your child exits your car.
Scenario 1:
You have a 5th grade student and a 1st grade student. Your car is in line but stops in front of the middle school building. Both your 5th grade scholar and 1st grade scholar exit your car
there
and walk along the sidewalk and crosswalk to the Couchell building and the gym building.
Scenario 2:
You have a middle school scholar and you are the first person in the line and stop at the crosswalk near the gym building. Your scholar exits at the gym building and walks along the crosswalk and sidewalk up to the middle school.
**If your child is unable to walk a certain distance, contact EC Director, Vanessa Baker
[email protected]
for assistance with your carpool drop-off and pick-up**

Unselfie “Why Empathetic Kids Succeed in our All-About-Me World
” Bestselling author Michele Borba offers a 9-step program to help parents cultivate empathy in children, from birth to young adulthood--and explains why developing a healthy sense of empathy is a key predictor of which kids will thrive and succeed in the future.
Is the Selfie Syndrome Undermining Our Kids' Future? The good news? Empathy is a trait that can be taught and nurtured. Dr. Borba offers a framework for parenting that yields the results we all want: successful, happy kids who also are kind, moral, courageous, and resilient. UnSelfie is a blueprint for parents and educators who want to kids shift their focus from I, me, and mine ...to we, us, and ours.
