This Spring, RCSD students will show their academic progress by participating in an end-of-the-year assessment program different from the California summative assessment used in previous school years. RCSD students will participate in the English language arts and mathematics assessment during the month of May to be completed by May 28, 2021.
Under California’s 2021 Assessment Plan, approved by the U.S. Department of Education in early April, California school districts are required to assess student knowledge in the spring of 2021, which differs from 2020 when assessments were cancelled. Under the plan for the spring, all school districts have the flexibility to use other standards-aligned assessment programs. RCSD will use iReady, a comprehensive assessment program aligned with the Common Core State Standards, that determines student progress and grade-level attainment in English language arts and mathematics.
We have been using iReady for our interim assessments during the 2020-21 school year. Students are familiar with the format of the exam and will be better able to show their actual level of standards attainment and progress over time. All students in grades 1-8 are scheduled to participate in the assessment program and it is recommended for kindergarten students who are participating in in-person teaching and learning.
All Roy Cloud students currently on campus participating in in-person teaching and learning will take the assessment on campus. Students in full distance learning will be invited to visit the school following state, county, and local health and safety guidelines associated with the current pandemic. End-of-year assessment results will be available for parents in June. The results will help the district with system needs for serving all students in 2021-22.
In partnership,
Diane

Traffic Safety & Courtesy
We appreciate you being respectful of the traffic signs as you exit our parking lots. Please remember the exit is Right Turn Only from both the Jefferson and Red Oak Parking lots.
End of Year Chromebook/iPad Turn In
At the end of the school year, each student will be returning their Chromebook or iPad. On the last day of school, Thursday June 10th, students who are learning on campus will need to bring their district-assigned device, and charger, to be left in their classroom with their teacher. Students who have remained in distance learning will be invited to come to the office at Roy Cloud on Friday, June 11th, and drop off their device. More information will be sent out by our technology department in the next few weeks.
End of Year 8th Grade Promotion
We are excited that we will be able to hold a modified, but in-person graduation ceremony this year for our 8th grade students. We will send out specific information to 8th grade families in the coming weeks, but essentially, students will be able to have two people per household attend their graduation ceremony. We will have those people pre-register as attendees to the event. We will use a random generator for pre-assigned seats. We are scheduled to hold this ceremony on Wednesday, June 9th, on the Roy Cloud campus. More details are coming soon!
Yearbooks!
Still need a Yearbook? We have a limited number that will be available for purchase for $35.00 dollars. Please email Anna Solorio. She will put your name on a list and we will reserve a yearbook for you once we receive your payment. Please make checks payable to “Roy Cloud School.”

Thanks to the coordination of UC Berkeley Environmental Science student Taylor Rein with the Redwood City Arts Commission, we have a new addition to our school garden! This decommissioned bee box was painted by local artist, Elise Dimik, and just got delivered to our garden this week! We cannot wait for the students to be able to check it out! Taylor and his group have used the garden science hour to tell 2nd and 5th grade students all about pollinators, and delivered seed packages and activities to these classes, where bee lifecycles and pollination are a bigger science topic. Thank you Taylor, Elise, and RWC Arts Commission!

STEAM UPDATE FROM MS. KWA
|
Our students and their stuffed friends don't have driver's licenses or cars to get around on their own. Students took into account their stuffed friends' abilities and destinations, then made a mode of transportation for them, including propelling and pulleys. Also watch as they bounce or zip away on a zipline!
