Christmas Families at Crossover Clinic

It's that time of year again, when you can help make Christmas extra special for a family in need.  Christmas can be an especially tough time for some of our patients who are struggling to pay the rent and buy food; it can be nearly impossible to find anything leftover for presents.  CrossOver Ministry is looking to match our patients in need with donors who want to help.. Here's how it works:
  • You get a list of ages, sizes, and things the children/family like.
  • You do the shopping. This is a great activity for family/friends to do together!
  • You drop off the gifts and we schedule pick up with the family.
You, your family, or your church group can make Christmas dreams come true for some very deserving kids!

Please let [email protected]  know if you respond to help just  one family with some Christmas Gifts & Register at below link:

It's That Time of Year!

Tradition is an important part of Christmas. Every year Poinsettias on display in the St. Giles Sanctuary set the stage for the festive events of Advent and Christmas.

If you'd like to order a Poinsettia in honor or in memory of a loved one, please fill out the Connection Card. Orders will be taken through Sunday, December 9 and will be on display from Sunday, December 16 through Christmas Eve. The price is $12.

It may interest you to know that for many years our poinsettias have come from a local farmer, a Christian brother, whose family-owned farm is in Amelia. Every year he personally delivers the pots, and with help of one of his boys, carefully removes the plastic protective slips, and places the flowers in the altar of the sanctuary. Later, two of our faithful volunteers, Ruth Calder and Linda Harrison, spend hours meticulously arranging each pot of blooms in an artful display for all to enjoy.

Please mark the Connection Card if you'd like to reserve a poinsettia, along with your sentiment. Mark your check "Poinsettia(s)". Your payment confirms the order.

An Invitation From Our Own Tina Ramirez
Tina Ramirez invites you to join her on November 17   at the Jefferson Hotel to a benefit for her organization, Hardwired, and their work defending religious freedom worldwide.  Please email Tina at  [email protected]   or register online at  www.hardwiredglobal.org/gala   to get your tickets today.  Tickets are $150 and all proceeds for the event will help them train pastors, lawyers, teachers, and many others in countries like Sudan, Iraq, Nigeria, India, and many other countries where people are suffering from religious persecution.  If you want to hear what is happening around the world, and how Hardwired is responding to bring the hope of freedom to the persecuted, please join her.  Kathy Ireland, a wonderful Christian woman and friend who has helped Hardwired since its inception, will be their keynote speaker.  There is also a conference that afternoon for anyone over 18 to attend and learn how to defend religious freedom.  Please spread the word to help our community embrace religious freedom for all people.

Sunday Morning Snacks

Wow, we're already in the last quarter of the year.  I want to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who signed up this year to bring refreshments. I'm now asking people to sign up to supply refreshments in 2019.  If you will participate next year, please just give me the number of weeks you want to supply the snacks and let me know which option you prefer:
  •          Pick up the snacks and put them out yourself
  •          Pick up the snacks and put them on the kitchen table for me to put out
  •          Donate $20 per number of Sundays you choose and I'll take care of everything

Once I have enough dates to cover the year, I'll do the calendar and send it out. There's no problem in changing the dates I put you in on. Jo White (804) 937-6836, [email protected] .

Join us on the Slave Trail on Saturday, November 17 , 2018. We'll meet at 9:00 AM at the Great Shiplock Park, (2803 Dock St.), where Jo White was baptized in October last year), organize rides from there to the beginning of the trail, and then back to our cars when we're finished.

The Richmond Slave Trail  is a walking trail that chronicles the history of the trade of enslaved Africans from Africa to Virginia until 1775, and away from Virginia (especially from Richmond) to other locations in the Americas until 1865. It begins at Manchester Docks, a major port in the massive downriver Slave Trade that made Richmond the largest source of enslaved Africans on the east coast. The trail then follows a route through the slave markets, beside the Reconciliation Statue commemorating the international triangular slave trade, past Lumpkin's Slave Jail and the Negro Burial Ground to First African Baptist Church, a center of African-American life in pre-Civil War Richmond.
