A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 11 12 18

P arents and Guardians,

On behalf of the staff at LHS, I want to say a big "Thank You" to all of you who are veterans.  My father was a career Navy pilot, and I am genuinely thankful for the sacrifices that military individuals and families make to serve our country.  Please know you are truly appreciated!

Congratulations also to our Volleyball team for advancing to the State Tournament this weekend at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.  The semi-final game is at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, and students will be able to attend the game and receive an excused absence.  To do this they must:
  • have a parent send an email to [email protected] giving the student permission to leave campus to attend the volleyball games
  • check out after 2nd period (10:35)
  • bring their ticket stub from the game, and submit it to the attendance office when they return to school after the Thanksgiving Break.
More details about the UIL State Volleyball Tournament can be found below.

Next week, students will have the entire week off from school to celebrate Thanksgiving.  I hope it is a special time for you and your student.  Please know that as an LHS Staff, we are thankful to get the opportunity to serve you and your students each day.  Have a great break!

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School
NOTE:
In an effort to be as efficient as possible, we prioritize our parent email as follows:

Lovejoy Letter Campaign
A Message from the Lovejoy Letter Liaison

Dear Campus Families:

We need your help to let our teachers and staff know how much our Lovejoy ISD community values them and the impact they have on our children! Teachers' salaries include a 1 ½% payment (annual compensation) on the Friday before Thanksgiving break. In addition to the payment the staff receives, we would like to include a handwritten letter from Lovejoy families expressing gratitude and appreciation to each teacher and staff member on our campuses.

We would be so grateful if you would write a letter or letter(s) to any teacher(s) or staff member(s), either current or past, who have played a valuable role in your child(ren)'s educational experience. Please clearly label the envelope with the teacher's/staff name and LLC (Lovejoy Letter Campaign) and return it to the front office of the applicable school.

The letter campaign has become a meaningful Lovejoy tradition. We appreciate the time and effort your contributions will make to this year's letter campaign. Remember #shortandsweet #showappreciation.

Sincerely,
Lovejoy Letter Liaison

Circle of Partners

On behalf of Lovejoy ISD we would like to thank Accent Landscape Management for participating in the Lovejoy ISD Circle of Partners. We thank Accent Landscape Management for their support of Lovejoy ISD and the important value they place on the education of our children.

Accent Landscape Management pledges 10% of gross revenues on work performed within Lovejoy ISD. Accent provides landscaping, irrigation and lawn maintenance services for commercial and residential properties. Their website may be found at Accent Landscape Management. Owners, Phillip and April Sheppard, are proud Hart parents of second grader, Kaiser, and Kindergartener, Sebastian, with two-year-old Charlotte soon to follow.

Lovejoy ISD is pleased to welcome Tutoring 101 to the Circle of Partners . Tutoring 101 and Lovejoy ISD have formed a revenue generating/sharing partnership to bring their services to Lovejoy families. Please see below for several offerings.

Private tutoring is available for students in grades K-12 in all subjects. Tutoring 101 recommends once a week tutoring for an hour to increase grades and learn subject matter more deeply. A once a week appointment usually results in an increase of one letter grade or more. Turn those C's into B's.

What is your SAT/ACT score? Want a better one? What do you need it to be?
Invest in a PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep program not just a class. Tutoring 101 helps high scorers get top scores, average students raise their scores and poor test takers achieve the scores colleges want. Tutoring 101 students have earned admissions and scholarships, and have saved thousands of tuition dollars every year.
  • Specialize in working with individual students and their specific needs
  • Day-of-test strategies

A Heart for Service
Over the past year, sophomore Stone Scalf has been dedicating a fair amount of his free time to provide volunteer hours to various organizations across the DFW area. So much so that he has earned the President's Volunteer Service Award Bronze level. This award is sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) a federal U.S. government agency that engages more than five million Americans in service initiatives and The Points of Light organization. Stone said some of his favorite and most memorable experiences volunteering was teaching fundamentals of hitting to students at the Hitter's Discipline Baseball Camps over the summer, serving as an assistant coach on the WSMS 8th grade Middle School Match Up team and working with The Buddy League in Garland. Sharing in their overwhelming joy that he too could feel for them as he helped his many "Buddies" run across home plate was an unexpected highlight.

LHS Wrestling
Lovejoy wrestling competed in our annual Pin Cancer Charity Dual this past Friday night with Rockwall HS. Our young wrestlers really competed well in this exhibition. We had 17 men and women compete Friday night, with the majority of our wrestlers being underclassmen. With that said Juniors Katherine Heath and Alex Vislosky led the team with two wins a piece!  Jakob Underwood won a well contested match by pin to kick of his sophomore campaign. Freshmen Luke Thomas and Braydon Wright also picked up wins in their first high school competition.

Junior Alex Vislosky, below, finished the night with two pins over very good opponents and a great start to his season!

Junior Katherine Heath in route to one of her two wins Friday night.

Sophomore Jakob Underwood brings his opponent back to mat on his way to a third period pin.
Come see our wrestlers in action this Wednesday night at 6:30 pm at Sloan Creek when the team hosts its RED vs. BLACK scrimmage and "How to watch a wrestling match" clinic. Lovejoy will then compete in its first tournament of the season at Rockwall Heath Friday and Saturday November 16-17.
