Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

James 1:2-3
The Pastor's Notes
from the desk of Walter Cantwell

On my way home from a Pastor's meeting in Columbia last week, I received a voicemail from Jeff Kuntz. He had a quick question. It is a question that is pertinent to the life of Belin Memorial, and it might just have an impact on you.

Before we pause and reflect on Jeff's question, I want to thank you for attending Transform Gatherings. Many of have you have attended one of these events to hear about the future of Belin Memorial. The overwhelming response to these presentations have been positive because we are a growing congregation. The two questions that many of you have asked: "Why haven't we done this campus expansion sooner? Are we planning big enough to meet our growing needs?" Someone even shared: "The best time to plant an oak tree was 100 years ago. The next best time is now!" Through Transform, we are stepping out in faith at this very moment so that there is a place for all people at Belin Memorial.

You do not want to miss the Town Hall Meeting next Sunday, November 18, at 4 PM. During this meeting, the Campus Site Plans will be revealed. It will be a time for you to see the initial plans from the Building Team. There will also be time for you to ask any questions you might have.

The Holidays are officially upon us. Why do I say this? Some radio stations are playing Christmas music and Thanksgiving themed meals are already happening. You will even see some Christmas trees in The Sanctuary and The Harbor with tags on them. Be an angel and select a tag from the Angel Trees this Sunday. Also mark your calendars for the annual Murrells Inlet Christmas Parade on December 2. We will be handing out goodies to those who watch the parade in front of our church.

If you are able, please consider giving blood at our next Blood Drive on Tuesday, November 20. Donating blood gives people the gift of life and provides them with a sense of hope. Offering people what they need leads me back to that conversation I had with Jeff.

Jeff serves as one of our volunteer leaders for Belin Backpack Mission. Since the spring, our mission has grown from providing 167 students with food to feeding 234 students every week. The food comes from your kind donations every week, monthly food drives at the Lowe's Foods in Murrells Inlet, and through the Belin Backpack Mission Team purchasing the remaining needed supplies. Jeff stepped out in faith and accepted the new students, which pushed our number served to 234. He didn't know if we have enough food, volunteers to shop for the extra food, transporters to carry the food, or loaders to unload the monthly donation from Lowe's Food. If you would like to volunteer, please email Jeff at [email protected]. Or you could also pick up the needed supplies the next time you go to the grocery store.

As I concluded my conversation with Jeff, he mentioned that he is worried he will have to say, "No," to the next Principal that calls telling him about students who need a little help. My hope is that we can come together so that this church will never have to say, "No," to reaching out to someone in need. If we all do our part, our love can go a long way.

Keep living the faith!

The sole mission of Outreach Farm (non-profit) is to feed God's people. They partner with Belin Memorial in helping to provide food for our community lunch on Wednesdays (hosted at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church in Garden City). They provided over 200,000 meals in 2017 to non-profit venues. Again this year they are selling festive mailbox decorations with fresh greenery, bows and ribbon as a means to raise funds for their operation.
