Letter from the President

Greetings friends of The Rep,

It's hard to believe that it is already November! With the hustle and bustle of the holidays upon us, the schedule this month at the 10th Street theatre is busier than ever.

First up, in partnership with 3B Productions, we are thrilled to present this weekend  The Rocky Horror Show on the 10th Street Stage for the very first time! This is a limited engagement with only three performances, first tonight at 8 pm, followed by two shows tomorrow evening at 7 pm and midnight.

After  Rocky, our resident dance company, Toledo's Human Experience (T.H.E.) Modern Dance Co., will be presenting "Elevate" on November 17th, a special cabaret fundraiser to benefit both T.H.E. and The Rep. This is a great opportunity to support some of the talented dancers and artists in our community. The event will feature dancers from T.H.E., guest musicians, and other Toledo artists.

Right before Thanksgiving, at 7 pm on November 19th, our wonderful group of adult improv students will be demonstrating their talents in an "Improv at The Rep" Fall Showcase. While we will be accepting donations to benefit our education programming (Rep Ed), admission to the showcase is free.

Last, but certainly not least, everyone's favorite curmudgeon, Ebenezer Scrooge, is coming to town a little earlier this year! Due to an unusually early Thanksgiving, we'll be opening our holiday classic, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, on November 30th at the historic Valentine Theatre. This year's production includes a number of additions and changes, so we hope you'll check it out!

To support the continued Community Outreach mission here at The Rep, we have also teamed up with "Toys for Tots" during this holiday season. Please bring new, unwrapped, toys to the Toledo Rep during our office hours, productions, or showcases or with you to The Valentine Theatre when you see A Christmas Carol.

Tickets and information for all shows and classes can be found at  toledorep.org.

To close, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we at The Rep would like to express our ongoing gratitude to everyone in the community that helps make this endeavor possible. We truly could not continue to entertain, educate, and serve the greater Toledo area without all of your support.

For that, we are very thankful.

See you at the theatre!

TOLEDO BLADE

"Slasher cuts through reality at Toledo Rep"
Dark comedy is full of laughs and gaffes that reveal level social commentary.

Slasher is a play about the making of a slasher movie, where frights blur out of the script of the movie and into reality... the reality of the characters in the play anyway... which dig at our own lived in society.  "It's perfect for Halloween," said Ashley McMahon, who plays Sheena, the "final girl" in the fictional movie casting that plays out on stage.

The 1970s and '80s did something to "scary" movies. The low-budget, high thrills and shrills movies created fans of not just scary movies, but movies whose attempts to be scary were laughable, then camp, then beloved kitsch where the film was in on the wink. In  Slasher, everyone is in on the spoof.  "They're all stereotype characters," McMahon said of the play written a decade ago by Allison Moore, "But then they actually reveal a lot of depth."

TOLEDO CITY PAPER

" Slasher Offers Slicing Satire"

"Any fan of horror movies will recognize the cliches in "Slasher", the play by Allison Moore, opening for a run at the Toledo Rep on Friday, October 26. A mad killer stalks a group of kids. The party eventually dwindles down to a single person fighting for her life.  But "Slasher" has more to say, not just about the horror genre, but also about the people who create it, reveals director Nancy Wright. "It's a horror-comedy, and it's a send-up of sl asher-type movies, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre," Wright said".
