Spokane Real Estate Excise Tax

The Spokesman-Review photo

Spokane's strong real estate market has again helped boost city street and other projects.

The city is expected to collect about $7 million in real estate excise taxes for the second year in a row, a significant increase after levels plummeted in the recession starting in 2008.

Gavin Cooley, Spokane's chief financial officer, said revenue from the taxes grew substantially last year, and he projects that by the end of this year the city could bring in close to the same amount.

NAR Strategic Framework

The NAR Board of Directors - led by 2018 President
Elizabeth Mendenhall - adopted a five-year strategic framework at its national convention in Boston, last week, to provide a more visionary, holistic, and business-oriented approach reflective of NAR's expanding role in technology and other arenas critical to real estate.

"The new strategic framework represents a common focus and direction for NAR leaders, volunteers, and staff," Heather Ozur, chair of the Strategic Thinking Advisory Committee, told the Board.

"It provides clear answers to several fundamental questions: Where are we going? What do we stand for? How do we agree to operate? And it captures the essence of both who the organization is and who it seeks to become, and what unique, core value it delivers."

Sunday is Veterans Day

THIS WEEKEND!
November 11

This Sunday, November 11th, is Veterans Day - a day set aside to celebrate the service of all U.S. military veterans.

The Spokesman-Review photo

You'll find a special Veterans Day insert in this Sunday's edition of The Spokesman-Review, the result of collaboration between the SAR VA Loan Work Group - Don Walker, retired SAR member and Past President - 1985 (above, right) - and The Spokesman-Review ( Scott Baumbach, Classified Advertising Manager (above, left).

The insert features a display ad placed by your Association (pictured below):

The public-facing ad supports veterans with a message directed to home sellers and REALTORS ®, as their broker: " When you list your home for sale, accept the loan type offered to those who protect the land under it. We believe in VA loans."

This ad supports the work of our VA Loan Work Group, convened this past summer, to encourage SAR members to be more active in promoting VA financing with their sellers.

Here is the one-minute video the Work Group commissioned this past summer to help SAR members say, "We believe in VA loans!"
