Dear Roslyn School Community,
This pandemic year has been hard on everyone, and one of its cruelest effects has been a terrible surge in anti-Asian violence and discrimination. For anyone in our community who has experienced such harm directly, we share your distress. Please be assured, that type of behavior is not tolerated here, against any group.
If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we are all in this together. Our common ground is far greater than our outward appearance, and I would like to see us use this time as an opportunity to unify, rather than divide.
As Superintendent of Roslyn Schools, I feel a profound responsibility for the safety and well-being of our school community. I write to you today to reaffirm that the district does not tolerate bullying, hazing, or any other kind of behavior that infringes on the safety or well-being of students or staff, or in any way interferes with instructional time.
In our classrooms, differences are to be respected and celebrated, and we back this up by offering innovative programs that promote acceptance and understanding. The Equal Opportunity and Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), enacted by the Roslyn Board of Education, reaffirms the district’s non-discrimination policies.
We value the dignity, worth, and potential of each and every person in our school community, and we strive everyday to make sure our school community shares and honors these values.
As COVID-19 restrictions ease, let’s all be easier on each other.
