"Their Memories Keep"
Nearly all of us "keep" memories of people who shaped and influenced us deeply. Here in the turning of the seasons, as we ready ourselves to move into the reflective time of winter, it's good to remember those people we carry with us -- and, of course, to acknowledge this 100th anniversary "Armistice Day" or as it is now known in this country, Veterans' Day. The sermon will be a bit of a meditation on memory and the interlocking world in which people live and move.

After soliciting suggestions for names for a Music Director Search Task Force, I have called together a group to help me in this hiring task. Its members are
Priscilla Douglas
(choir
), Tom Hyde
(choir),
Stephen Rainville
(Lay Lead for Worship and Music) and
Mary Peabody
(personnel experience).
The group will seek input from many people, such as the choir, our organist and our pianist, our Interim Music Director, the Music Committee Chair, and the congregation as we go about our task.
Although in FUUSB's governance model, the senior minister has hiring responsibility for this position, I would not want to identify the next music director of the congregation without working closely with a search group. In coming weeks, the task force will be reviewing the job description, posting the position in a number of places, accepting and reviewing applications, interviewing the candidates in whom we have the most interest, and auditioning them before hiring.
The task force will communicate the process and progress to you through brief pieces in our weekly e-communication. They intend to be available as often as possible so that you can talk to them and hope you will ask questions and share your thoughts on the music program.

It's a pretty sweet scene, don't think I embellish
There's really not much, that you must do
Just one thing's important, and that's to bring you!

The Holiday Bazaar Lunch
is a wonderful social event at the Bazaar. Visiting over lunch in the Parlors is lots of fun. I am so thankful for everyone who donates the food and their time to make the Lunch a success.
I am still looking for a few more volunteers to:

--make/donate 1.5 gallons of African Nut Stew (I will supply the recipe)

| A Friendly Reminder About Flu Season |

It's that most wonderful time of the year . . . Flu Season! We at FUUSB would like to do our very best to prevent the spread of the flu virus as much as we possibly can. As a staff that means that if we become ill with the flu, we will stay home until we are no longer contagious. We do not want to spread the virus to each other nor to our congregants. We will also do our very best to keep our spaces clean and to make tissues and hand sanitizer available throughout the building.
As members of our community, we ask that you also stay home if you are ill. Staying home until you are fever free for at least 24 hours is recommended. When welcoming people on Sundays, perhaps using a heart tap in place of shaking hands would be preferable. Remember, we have members of our congregation that are at high risk for contracting the flu; let's keep our germs to ourselves.

For all those learned and budding actors, we invite you to be part of our Stone Soup Thanksgiving Service on Sunday,

. We're looking for several villagers, a village elder, as well as some strangers.
We need folks for both the
9:00 am and 11:00 am worship services on
November 18. There are speaking parts and non-speaking parts. The dress rehearsal is scheduled on
Saturday, November 17, from
10:30-12:00 in the Sanctuary. Casts for

| JUMP Volunteers Need Your Help! |

Next Sunday, November 18, we need help sorting all of the filled JUMP bags that have been returned. This will happen at 12:15 in the sanctuary and will take less than an hour.
The next day, Monday, Nov. 19, we also need help transporting all of the filled JUMP bags to the First Congregational Church (home of JUMP) at 9:00 a.m. It is one of those jobs for which
literally
"many hands make light work" and it will only take an hour!

| Service of Loss and Remembrance |
|
We will be gathering for a special Service of Loss and Remembrance on Wednesday, December 12 at 5:30 p.m. to remember FUUSB members, personal friends or family whom we have recently lost.
This service for all ages will be led by Rev. Andre Mol, Developmental Assistant Minister for Pastoral Care and Membership, and will be supported by the Care Network and Pastoral Care Associate teams. We will create an altar of remembrance to which you are invited to bring a photo or memento of anyone you wish to honor.
Following this brief service, we will gather for refreshments. Please join us and share this news with others.

Guest at Your Table is the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee's (UUSC) annual intergenerational program to raise support for and awareness about their work to advance human rights. The UUSC is a 77-year-old human rights organization that focuses on three core areas: Rights at Risk, Environmental Justice & Climate Action, and Economic Justice.
UUSC partners with over 75 grassroots organizations on the front lines of critical human rights issues. Most of its partners have small staff sizes, and many are just getting started - but all make a big difference. This year's theme - Justice Across Borders - celebrates the bravery, innovation, and reach of UUSC's grassroots partners.
UUSC depends upon the support of UU members and friends to continue its vital work around the world.
