Alliance Bylaws Update
At their September meeting, the Westshore Alliance Board of Directors voted unanimously to amend organizational bylaws pertaining to terms of board leadership positions. Board directors, executive committee members, and officers will now serve 1-year terms instead of the previous 2-year term positions. These changes will increase opportunities for members to serve in leadership roles, as well as allow them to ascend to executive and officer board positions within a more suitable time frame. This is one of several Alliance initiatives to prepare for the next generation of leadership, as announced at the annual meeting earlier this year.

Westshore Alliance endorses Transportation Referendum
At their September meeting, the Westshore Alliance Board of Directors voted unanimously to support the Hillsborough County transportation tax referendum. The plan outlined by the referendum will fund road, transit and pedestrian projects that are needed across Hillsborough County. Improving transportation for those who work, live and visit Westshore is a top priority of the Alliance. This referendum gives voters the opportunity to decide to invest in transportation improvements in Westshore and the surrounding community.

Learn more about the referendum here. The City of Tampa Transportation Department staff prepared a summary about the referendum and how proceeds could be used for projects within the city limits.
Westshore Transportation Action Plan gains support
The Hillsborough Metropolitan Planning Organization Board voted to support the Westshore Transportation Action Plan at their meeting on October 2. The Action Plan identifies 104 roadway, transit, bicycle and pedestrian improvements needed in Westshore. Many of these projects are already underway. The Action Plan will serve as a blueprint for Westshore transportation projects to 2045. For more information on the Action Plan, visit the Alliance website or contact Alliance Director of Transportation and Planning Michael Maurino via email or at 813-289-5488.
Howard Frankland Bridge forum first step toward new span
More than 200 transportation professionals and interested parties attended the Howard Frankland Bridge Industry Forum last month. This event precedes the expected December release of the new southbound span RFP. The new $814-million span will include four general purpose lanes from Tampa to St. Petersburg, two express lanes in each direction, and a multiuse trail. The express lanes will be built strong enough to accommodate rail service. The existing southbound lanes will switch to northbound. Visit the project page to learn more.
