The state of Illinois has a law commonly known as Erin’s Law which states that a comprehensive health education program shall include age-appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education in grades PK - 12. The key term is age-appropriate. As we have done the last few years, our social worker, Lisa Guagenti, will introduce this topic for PK-6
th grade through an age appropriate storybook followed by a conversation with the students centered on awareness as well as what to say and who to talk with if they ever feel uncomfortable. Her schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, Nov 13: SK & 1
st
Friday, Nov 16: JK, 2
nd, & 4

Tuesday, Nov 20: 3

Tuesday, Nov 27: 5

Friday, Nov 30: PK
A presentation to 7
th & 8
th grade will be made at a different time.
The books used by Mrs. G. are available at the school office for your review. We encourage you to talk with your students both before and after their session in order to prepare them in advance and have dialogue afterwards about what they learned. We also encourage you to look at the storybooks we use. Several of them have helpful tips for parents.
Feel free to contact me or Lisa Guagenti if you have any questions regarding how we approach this sensitive, but important piece of education.

Dr. Appointments:
There has been an increase in students leaving during the school day for medical appointments. Educationally, it is best if these can be done outside of school hours. If an appointment needs to be during school hours, please contact the school office and homeroom teacher the day before the appointment so that we are prepared for a smooth transition.
Pizza Lunch Fundraiser benefiting the Night Ministry: We will have a pizza lunch fundraiser on Friday, November 16 to benefit the Night Ministry.
Each year the church congregation and the school work together to fill 50-60 handmade Christmas stockings with toiletries and simple necessities which are handed out during the holidays. Proceeds from the pizza lunch will be used to purchase items needed to fill the stockings.
Payment must be in cash and is due back Monday, November 12.
The Oak Park Women’s Guild is sponsoring a fundraiser for Grace parent, Adrienne Rohde, whose daughter Lillie is in SK. There will be a special showing of “Ferdinand” at the Classic Cinema in Oak Park on Saturday, November 10
